We had a lovely weekend overall, but I've marked down the hotel due to the issues checking in the other couple that I had booked to accompany us. We managed to check in at 1pm - as per our request. of which I was very grateful for. However, the other couple arrived at 2.15 and (which wasn't an issue) were informed that their room wouldn't be ready for another 1/2 hour. They were offered a beer by way of compensation. In the end though, they didn't manage to gain access to their room until 4.20. This was ridiculous as the room they were allocated was next to ours and appeared to be serviced when we arrived at 1.00pm. Because of this, they were unable to join us at the pool on a hot day. I can't understand why they couldn't access a room, which should be available at 3pm at the latest. The lady at reception offered us a later checkout the next day which was nice, however, we would have preferred to have had a more earlier check in. All staff were lovely and polite, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the temperature (on a steamy day) was just right.
Reason for choosing Sofitel. 5 star overlooking Darling Harbour with infinity pool. The hotel website images create an impression of an adult focused, relaxing pool area with views of Darling Harbour. In fact, the furniture is nothing like shown on the website and it is packed with families and loud children (even tried at 9am and same). People changing nappies on the tables!! There is heavy construction work in front of the hotel and building work on the pool terrace. The hotel can’t help building work of course, but it would have been nice to know that the views of Darling Harbour are marred by cranes etc. The image of the superior bedroom that I booked showed an image of a Darling Harbour view. We had a car park view. Asked to change rooms (even to pay more) but was told that hotel was full. However, rooms were still available to book on-line. Room was comfortable albeit a bit small for 2 double beds. I would not stay here again. It was a great disappointment.
From the valet to our check-out. Everything was flawless. The hotel is stunning, well-looked after and spotless clean. Our room was super spacious and had the most beautiful view. Bed, pillows and amenities all amazing. Service was exquisite. A big thanks to Renato who welcomed us to the hotel with a beautiful smile and gave us the best tips.
My husband and I booked this room for our honeymoon and we were treated with the most incredible view. The pool was great to relax and experience the harbour from a different angle. The pool bar staff was great and the front desk was great and everyone made us feel so welcome. We really hope to be back soon!
The two French front of house “in training staff” were so amazing. Honestly, both deserve a pay rise and their training wheels taken off. They are all class. The room design was odd with nowhere to plug in kettle except on bedside table, or the main table. The lighting system is frustrating as well. Keep it simple is better and there should be a door to seperate the closet. The pool towel return system makes zero sense as you exit the pool and have to circle back to drop off towels. Positives include the bed and comfort of pillows, the breakfast and coffee is world class. The ambiance is perfect and the speed and ease of lifts was great. The outdoor pool was great however there was not enough pool lounges and little help removing peoples towels who weren’t swimming or even using a pool lounge. Luggage folks were also a positive as were the concierge staff. At these prices with the constriction that’s occurring and starting to block off views, we would consider another hotel next trip.
