Function Venue
•With its appearance on Wynyard Square dating back to 1850, it’s no surprise to learn that the Occidental Hotel is the oldest building in the area. Its heritage-listed foundations house two bars, a bistro, a restaurant, and a private function venue, as well as a slew of budget accommodation. So the old girl’s still working pretty hard. The public bar of the Occidental immediately makes it clear that the hotel has eschewed the temptation to renovate in a modern, shiny way. Instead, the charm of the “Occi” comes from the vintage furnishings, the old-world charm and its lack of pretension. Aside from the main bar, the Occidental boasts a bistro, as well as a second, more New York lounge-style bar on its first floor. Heading upstairs one finds the acclaimed and popular Fairmont Restaurant. Up one more level still is the private function room. Any of the spaces can be hired as a private function venue, for anything from conferences to engagements, Christmas parties to large dinners. Conveniently located in the Central Business District, the Occidental Hotel is found on the corner of York and Erskine Streets, Sydney. Looking over Wynyard Square, the historic hotel is in close proximity to all of the usual tourist locations, as well as a heap of public transport options.

One of the best if not the best place for affordable drinks in the cbd. Happy hour is outright cheap and drink prices are actually reasonable even the rest of the time. The food is good as well and staff are friendly. Highly recommend.
Great location for exploring all of Central Sydney. They have a lively pub downstairs but great soundproofing from it if you just want to get some sleep in a quaint quiet room. The streets nearby can get a little loud but nothing major. I travelled solo and I recommend it.
The best Happy Hour in Sydney. The food is amazing and a pint is only 7 dollars. I love the Wednesday Wings for less than a dollar and just amazing. Really good service and great vibes.
Four nights. Room 47, a corner room. Check in was prompt, even though I did have to ring a number due to the hotel being shut on a Sunday. It is a heritage building and I love that there are many period parts of the building still visable. Four floors up via a lift. A light and bright corner room with two old style sash windows. One of which has been clumsily screwed shut, with resulting gaps wide enough that the wind blows straight through and flaps the broken blind. Rooms have a fridge, microwave, tea n coffee making facilities, table and chairs, side table, wardrobe, TV, sink, air-conditioning. No towel rails! Shared bathroom facilities were clean and fresh Bed was very comfortable. But gosh the room was so noisy due to the ill fitting windows, and of course the location. I don't mind sleeping with ear plugs in but even these did not sufficiently deaden the noise. Value for money and location are excellent. I would definitely book again. But a little work to seal up the non opening window in the room and the installation of a towel rail. Would be great! Cheers.
The Occi is a great pub for after work drinks with your mates. Beer is a little cheaper here than other places. Standing tables outside for drinking on the footpath when it's too crowded inside. Nearly always busy.
