•With its appearance on Wynyard Square dating back to 1850, it’s no surprise to learn that the Occidental Hotel is the oldest building in the area. Its heritage-listed foundations house two bars, a bistro, a restaurant, and a private function venue, as well as a slew of budget accommodation. So the old girl’s still working pretty hard. The public bar of the Occidental immediately makes it clear that the hotel has eschewed the temptation to renovate in a modern, shiny way. Instead, the charm of the “Occi” comes from the vintage furnishings, the old-world charm and its lack of pretension. Aside from the main bar, the Occidental boasts a bistro, as well as a second, more New York lounge-style bar on its first floor. Heading upstairs one finds the acclaimed and popular Fairmont Restaurant. Up one more level still is the private function room. Any of the spaces can be hired as a private function venue, for anything from conferences to engagements, Christmas parties to large dinners. Conveniently located in the Central Business District, the Occidental Hotel is found on the corner of York and Erskine Streets, Sydney. Looking over Wynyard Square, the historic hotel is in close proximity to all of the usual tourist locations, as well as a heap of public transport options.

the bar is a fantastic post work spot. couple of great selections on tap, and good fast service. The menu deals are good value, especially their parmi and pint for $29, would highly recommend trying it. Big shoutout to Max who’s service was exceptional and made the night perfect for unwinding after work. He genuinely cares for the wellbeing of his patrons

We recently celebrated my husband's 50th at the occidental hotel and have to say they were very hospitable and polite. The restaurant area where the party was held was very spacious and clean. I highly recommend the occidental hotel to anyone, also great location only minutes away from public transport. Thank you to all staff who were involved in making my husband's 50th birthday celebration a memorable one well done to you all!

Being close to everything is nice, tho there is the city noise no fault of the hotel tho. With the hotel being a bar/dance floor/ major gathering point it does get pretty loud on the lower levels. The wifi absolutely doesn’t work. You can connect to it but good luck getting anything done or to work. There is only a microwave, a bathroom sink, and a mini refrigerator. The bathrooms and showers are public to everyone on the floor. Our door knob doesn’t work. And with the outlets being on the floor trim the microwave cord didn’t even reach the outlet, that was a major pain. The bar staff was also the check in point, they were lovely tho.

Sooo happy with our experience at the Occidental. We had a function there on a Saturday night, the food was excellent, the staff were awesome, the space was perfect. Booked a room for the night and that was also great, so affordable and clean. The staff had my keys ready at 7pm soon as we arrived for the function. I forgot to return the keys and they were very relaxed when I returned them. Staff were excellent helping me book the function also. Highly recommend the Occidental for a party/function, for a place to stay, or even a quick drink or meal right across the road from Wynyard. Thank you Occidental. Cheers Pat Daley
