Located in the heart of The Rocks in Sydney, Frank Mac’s pays tribute to the owner’s great uncle Frank, a larger-than-life character regularly found at his local village bar in Ireland. The venue is the latest addition to the building’s rich history, its sandstone walls having hosted a boot maker, boarding house, doctor’s surgery & opium dealer since the 1840s.
As they step in off the street, and enter through the heritage shopfront, guests are greeted by a visual feast. Authentic and attentive to detail, the shelves are packed to the brim with vintage knick-knacks and goods, harking back to the eclectic general stores of early 20th century Ireland.

The main bar is a showpiece item, with traditional stained oak panelling, and asymmetrical painted timber shelves telling a story of decades of use. Tacked onto the end of the bar is the “Snug”, a fresh take on the traditional pubs in the emerald isle, where the ad-hoc cramped spaces were notoriously used to cut shady deals between powerful characters.

There is a cozy and welcoming atmosphere that permeates the internal spaces, surrounded by the warmth of custom American oak joinery, dark velvet curtains and antique leather banquettes, wall and pendant lights, and aged brass detailing. The outdoor areas are defined by a pair of vintage mural artworks, a nod to the advertising art of early 20th century Sydney.
The design of the bar was carefully considered to protect and enhance the highly significant heritage fabric. Techniques include using freestanding joinery, protective floor layers, and no fixings into the sandstone walls, carefully inserting the new design elements within the heritage framework.

Frank Mac's is a great place to enjoy a leisurely drink in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. With its impressive gin selection, creative cocktails, and charming decor, it's a must-visit for cocktail lovers in Sydney.

Wait staff were friendly and helpful. The downstairs, indoor lounge area had a classic and elegant vintage leather and velvet look. Bottomless drinks lived up to its name. The undercooked brownie that was cut into tiny cubes and served in a small, share bowl for guests to pick up with no cutlery could’ve been served in more generous slices on individual plates per guest with a side of Vanilla ice cream. As desserts are the final course, it should be celebrated and indulged. For the Charcuterie Boar, the ratio of cold meats, cheese and crackers didn’t match the volume of bottomless drinks being served and could be increased slightly. As there’s an extensive drinks menu, I’d be open to coming back to try the indoor, vintage lounge experience with proper food and cocktails to see if that service is better to the bottomless drinks package.

I am a massive Gin lover and Frank Mac's is definitely the place to try something new. The staff are super helpful and know their way around a cocktail. The layout is amazing with few different areas to enjoy. You can sit around the bar and get educated about drinks. The is an outside area with lit up trees. The downstairs area has a beautiful fire place and surrounded by sandstone. Thank you for always taking good care of me.

Saw a bartender reaching for the maraschino cherry from the jar in garnish line with his bare finger and straight into his mouth, not washing his hands after. The girls did awesome job with the patrons (being very attentive and remembering the names); the boys on the other hand are more concerned on chatting with each other and cannot be bothered with anything else. I don't mean to sound sexist but that's how it feels, and no, am not a creepy man here.

Service overall bad, seemed like everyone was new apart from 1 person, slow, not patron based just not worth it in my opinion. Cocktail selection could definitely be better. Good atmosphere outside but probably because it shared the area with another venue.
