We've run a few night time events at Sfera's and loved it. Friendly staff, easy to work with, clear communications, good facilities, a beautiful view out over Civic Park and different room sizes/layouts to suit different types of events. Callie has always looked after us really well on the night with each of the events we've run (with food, drinks, tech set-up and everything else we've needed!).
This is a fabulous looking venue with a great reputation in the area. Unfortunately the business has recently changed hands, and, if my recent experience is anything to go by, new management have little understanding of hospitality. We held my daughter's 21st Birthday celebration at Sfera's on 2/11/24. This was a small function of 38 people that should have been straightforward. We paid $55 PH for their 'High Tea' package. This price was to include tea and coffee, softdrinks and a selection of sweet and savory pastries across 2.5 hours. It was a seated affair. Photographs in the paperwork relating to this package suggested that food would be served on tiered stands and coffee and tea in porcelain cups and saucers (as you would expect with a High Tea). Rather than add on the champagne package we created a selection of drinks (beer/wine/G7T) and had a bar tab. On the day of the function the table settings were created as requested (with pink napkins and while table clothes). However, at least 6 plates on each table were visibly chipped and some plates had significantly cracked. Not a good look,. I noted that no cups and saucers were provided (I assumed these would be brought out later. When my guests arrived alcoholic beverages were served on consumption according to the list of selections taped on the bar. A couple of jugs of water were placed on the table (that were never refilled). No softdrink in jugs was provided (the General manager explained that there was a concern the drink would go flat). It was quite a hot day and I am fairly certain any drinks provided would have been drunk. When the food arrived it was plentiful, but low quality food (they may well have just reheated most of it from frozen after picking it up from Woolies). It was presented without any attempt at flair on white platters (not the tiered stands as suggested in the brochure) and without garnish. No coffee or tea was offered. It was not provided on the list at the bar so no one thought to ask. When I asked where the tea and coffee was, I was told that it was available from the bar at request. I'm not sure how my guests were supposed to know this. Eventually it was agreed to bring the coffee cart in so guests could help themselves. It took them a good 20 minuutes to faff about with this. Only paper cups were provided (not suitable for a High Tea) and the 6 cups and saucers they eventually gave us were replaced by mugs (also not for High Tea)......it then occurred to me that they had no intention of serving coffee or tea at what is effectively a coffee and tea function (it is even in the title of the package). We had coffee and tea for about 1 hour.....and for much of that time the machine churned out lukewarm coffee. Tea bags.....there were about 12 in total and no milk. I was not spoken to by management at the conclusion of the function. This would have been appropriate. I emailed the function coordinator, Matilda, the next day and she ignored my email. I then emailed the General Manager, Michael Sfera and he ignored me. When I called him his PA told me that he was 'too busy to talk' and would 'contact me the next day'. He eventually emailed me on a Friday at 4:30pm. His response was rude, dismissive and without a hint of compassion. He accepted no responsibility for the fact that I did not receive the package I had paid for. His reasons for the absence of tea and coffee and tiered stands..."We don't do it like that anymore.' Consumers beware....these monkeys can't manage a piddly little tea and coffee function would hardly let them anywhere near a wedding. My advice is that you skip this venue and go somewhere that actually has an inking of what hospitality is. This is clearly a management issue.
Services were amazing, the staff was friendly, amenities were great. I was staying for my honeymoon, I had TTP next to me, which was really convenient for me and my husband. I slept for like 15 hours, the beds were so comfortable, and I would definitely recommend you to stay there, book a venue, or just eat there.
The room was clean and nice. The bathroom needed updating. The vanity was old and falling apart. The spa bath was great. Clean linin and comfortable bed. Central heating is controlled through the whole building, so you can't change the temp in individual rooms.
Great location. Clean rooms, however you can't change the room temperature at all and when we rang to ask if we could they said no. Upon check in we stood there for 5-10 minutes because no one was behind the counter. A girl came in with a drink, walked passed us behind the counter, saw us, put her drink down and then went through a door and didn't come back out, someone else came out another 5 minutes later. We were given free drink cards but the bar was closed. Had a lovely gentleman who was setting up for an 18th pour us some drinks. Other than him though the staff were rather rude and unapproachable.
