Higher Ground calls home to a historic, heritage-listed 1890s former power station in the western end of Melbourne’s CDB grid. The heritage-listed venue is located in the heart of the CBD and features six connected levels wrap around the perimeter of the original brick building to create a suite of intimate tiered platforms. Operating as a cafe during the day, the space transforms into a unique event space in the evening. With delicious food, great service and an amazing ambience, Higher Ground works like a well-oiled machine and offers a dining experience like no other.

This cafe became so popular because of Instagram popularity but it doesn’t reflect their food. Overall atmosphere is alright. Food was nice presentation. We ordered pancake and chili omelet. Bread was super hard to cut. Pancake was nice soft but nothing special. We asked pancake syrup on the side instead of poured after read many comments about too Sweet feed back. Staff was very friendly.

Delicious! We had their signature egg and crab benedict, cheese burger and pork katsu. All were great, especially the benedict. The combo of salty crab with the slightly sweet pastry is delicious. The only thing stopping this from being a 5 star review is the facilities are a little tired and in need of care. Staff were lovely.

Higher Ground offers a beautiful ambience with its unique design and high ceilings, giving the space an airy and elegant feel. The interior is well thought out, making it a great place to sit back and enjoy a meal. The food here is pretty good and tasty. One of the highlights for me was the Eggs Benedict, which had perfectly poached eggs with a rich, velvety hollandaise sauce. The sourdough toast was crispy, adding a nice contrast to the creamy eggs. Other dishes on the menu were also well-executed, making it a worthwhile spot for brunch or a relaxing meal. Overall, it’s a great place for both the food and the experience, and I’d definitely visit again.

An absolutely GORGEOUS cafe conveniently located in the Melbourne CBD. We loved it so much we went 2 days in a row on a 3 day trip! As far as coffees go, hands down my favourite one I’ve had in Melbourne (which is obviously a big call). The setting is warm and open, the staff are super friendly, and you can see the efficiency and hard work of the kitchen staff from the open plan kitchen. Will definitely be a firm favourite for a long time to come!

Absolutely delicious coffee with a great selection of filter and pourover coffees. Brunch with lots of egg-based options is excellent as well, try the chili scrambled eggs! Line can get super long on busy weekends and service can be a bit slow, but a great experience otherwise.
