A favourite whenever visiting the cbd. Always bustling inside, and for good reason! Consistently delicious food 🍳 gorgeous Melbourne hospitality 🫶 and a venue and atmosphere to match 🙌 whenever I have friends visiting Melbourne it’s my go to that never fails to impress, and I always love my visits. Thanks team for always making HG such a nice visit. 🔥 hot tip, book ahead if you can! Especially weekends, otherwise the wait can be pretty long. If you haven’t booked try to get in early to avoid the line! Otherwise you can enjoy a coffee in their outdoor area while you wait too x
The half-hour wait to get in was worth it for the experience. While the menu options are limited, the dishes are unique and creatively presented, showcasing a thoughtful approach to food. The coffee was decent. The cafe’s heritage rustic style building adds a lot of charm, which I personally loved. However, the loud music detracts from the ambiance, making it less ideal for a relaxed catch-up. Overall, a good spot for a special outing if you’re willing to wait, but perhaps not for quiet conversations. And make sure you book in advance!
Recommended to come here from a friend . Got here at 9.30 and told wait is 30 mins . After 1 hour I had to remind waiter that we were still waiting . Not a good start . After another 15 minutes we were finally let in . We ordered and waited another just under 1 hour for the food. Whilst the food was beautifully presented and delicious, I don’t feel like it was worth THAT MUCH of a wait. I get it, with good places I am expected to wait a little longer but getting there at 9.30 am and leaving at 12 is a big stretch! I felt like the service didn’t meet the establishments size and offering . Great food and atmosphere but Melbourne has plenty of other options just as good …
the only thing nice was the atmosphere - it’s really pretty inside. but we waited 40 minutes for the food to be served, service was meh. most importantly i was shocked with the amount of foam in my coffee that i had to ask for an exchange; egg crab benedict costs $34 but was extremely small; swordfish was okay but definitely overcooked. would not recommend :/
Higher Ground is a beautifully designed, aesthetic café that makes a great first impression. The ambiance is trendy and inviting, with a lot of attention to detail in the interior. The food presentation is excellent – everything looks picture-perfect and well thought out. However, while the dishes look amazing, the taste was just average in my opinion. As a vegetarian, I found there were only a few options on the menu, and they didn’t really wow me. That said, the service was fantastic. The staff were attentive, friendly, and really added to the experience. Overall, it's a lovely place to visit for the vibe and presentation, but the food, especially for vegetarians, could be a bit more exciting.
