Booked for Mother’s Day and wasn’t told breakfast finishes early so we had to rush a bit. Appreciated being able to pre book and still be served and looked after. Mother’s Day was made special and loved the flowers on the table and the friendly staff. Some asked us about our disco coming up and wanted to join us. The food was wonderful and my family enjoyed the buffet especially my nephews!!
Accommodation was nice and comfortable. We didn’t play golf but great place to stay if wanting to play a round. Staff were very warm and welcoming, the food (in particular the pizzas) was also amazing. Little far out from town to walk but only a short drive.
Recently stayed here for a conference. I’m not a golfer but there was zero judgement from the staff and staff were welcoming and accommodating. Staff helped me with my luggage to the room and pick up from the room for check out. As I was a speaker I explained I needed the room for longer and got a 2pm check out with no issues at all. Hotel is fresh, clean, lots of natural light and great local art work available for purchase Great job Sands Torquay
Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy our stay at The Sands Torquay, which was especially disappointing as we were visiting for our 10-year wedding anniversary. Our room was located directly under the function room, and while we understand that events happen on Saturday nights, the noise from people talking loudly continued well past a reasonable hour. At 1 AM, we tried calling reception multiple times to ask when it would quiet down, but no one answered. The event finally wrapped up after 2:30 AM, but by then, guests were returning to their rooms, and we could hear showers running in the adjacent rooms, making it difficult to get any sleep. When we mentioned the noise at checkout, the receptionist was friendly and apologetic. They let us know that handover notes mentioned multiple missed calls overnight because the staff member was doing their walk-around. A simple solution could be forwarding calls to a mobile phone so guests can reach someone when needed. Unfortunately, the noise didn’t end there. On Sunday morning, it sounded like staff were back in the function room above us, cleaning up and moving furniture, adding to the disruption. The room itself was clean, but the bathroom needed a good scrub, as there was a lot of mould in the shower grout. Bed was also very hard and could use a mattress topper. Overall, it was a disappointing stay, and we wouldn’t choose to stay here again
