It’s a great venue, fantastic location, river views and a very handy meeting place if you are going to Jeff’s Shed. Good range of tap beer and they often have live acoustic music out the front. The only let down and sadly it the same for all these venues along the waterfront is the food. Most are managed by the same group, all the food is the same standard. Doable, but not great.
This is a riverside pub situated along the Yarra River at South Wharf. They have a large indoor seating area and quite a few outdoor tables with excellent river views. Opening hours are 11.30am to 9 or 10pm daily. The General Assembly has a nice menu of bar foods along with beer, wine and cocktails. Order at the bar and food and drinks will be brought out to your table. We enjoyed an order of calamari, whisky sour and glass or Pinot Noir. Service was friendly and timely, prices just fine for the venue location. This is a nice riverside pub and place we'd gladly stop by again for a round of drinks and light bite to eat.
Very good food, even when quite busy with a private function. For the price, was actually reasonable value considering the location on the river, with great views.
It’s a nice pub, I am only disappointed about the Calamari that I ordered. They’ve been very very salty, that can happen but how to handle it is a different thing. I was asked if all is good and I just told them that the food is too salty and nobody seems to be interested. I tried to eat them (19$) but could not.
The $25 steak special was a top performer, can’t go wrong with that. Will be back to try some other delicacies. Also great location and service here at The General.
