One of our favourite hotels in Melbourne. Stayed here on multiple occasions. There was a problem with our room on the first night and they upgraded us to a suite. We stayed for four nights. Excellent service and attention from all staff especially Aaron from the front desk. Location is central and it’s a lovely building. Highly recommended and will come back.

The hotel is so rich in history and elegance. First of all, the Rialto and Winfield buildings are just beautiful. They were built from 1888 to 1891 and the Rialto is saved in whole. Being able to literally stay in it is my pleasure. Secondly, the hotel is relatively modern and the room is clean and well maintained. Although it was reimbursed around 2007, it is still not that dated. The aroma in the lobby and the room is enjoyable. Thirdly, the suite itself is spacious and luxurious as we stayed in one of the signature suites. It has views of Collins Street. With the double glass windows, you won’t be disturbed by the traffic. But maybe because it’s a listed building, we cannot open the window. But the air conditioning is working really well. Fourthly, the bathroom is wonderful. It’s so spacious with capacity for around 4 people using it in the same time I think. The jet bath and shower systems are fabulous. Coming with bath salt and Byredo amenities, you can definitely enjoy your stay here. Meanwhile, it’s notable that the ambassador and IHG one rewards are well recognized here. The service I got including upgrading is so exceptional and I sincerely appreciate it. And staff are highly professional and responsive. They know how to take care of their residents in need. And staff and chef at the Club are professional and very helpful as well (Pancake there is recommended). Last but not least, the breakfast at Alluvial restaurant is good with plenty of choices. The chef at egg station is highly skilled. As a hotel enthusiast, I highly recommend this hotel especially if you’re a fan of historic buildings.

Highly recommended. Exceptional customer service, beautiful interiors, great location and delicious food. It ticked all the boxes. Very honest staff. We forgot our valuables in the room.. Staff called back and everything was intact. Spacious and clean rooms.

Do not make the mistake of upgrading yourself to a king room you get placed on level nine absolutely no ventilation. You cannot breathe. It feels like you are suffocating. Lucky we were moved down a level where you were actually allowed to open the door to get fresh air But there is actually no fresh air. It’s just building ventilation but it is cooler than the top floor. The people that were staying there were very snobby in route and the hotel is extremely quiet. Do not recommend for young people definitely for older people who think they have made it in life.

I have stayed at this property several times over the years, but feel that the overall service and hospitality, primarily in the Executive lounge is below par, and dropping, for the level of what it should be at an Intercontinental Property. As a Diamond Ambassador member, staying over 160+ nights a year at various Intercontinental properties globally, and other brands, this is far by one of the below average exec lounge food experiences i have had in the past few years. During my six night stay, the food at the lounge was terrible, soggy, as if it had sat out the back in warmers for hours, and you could get better tasting food served at a corner seven eleven! The several times i visited the lounge for evening canapes, it was the same, and yes, i made them well aware that they shouldn't be serving this quality to guests that gain access, either via loyalty or paying, as its terrible! I made three attempts to contact management at the hotel, with no reply to my experience and or feedback, once again, disappointing. One occasion at the hotel, the duty manager was floating around, and i made him aware that the bread that was out, wasn't fresh and was stale, he immediately assessed the bread, acknowledged it was old and stale, and made the staff replace the bread to fresh and crunch bread - but this shouldnt need to happen at a 5 star hotel. The rooms are nice, comfortable, staff at the front desk are helpful and welcoming, and the concierge are always smiling and welcoming you back. The bar downstairs is a great spot for a cocktail, peaceful, but the service can be slow and lacking with limited staff on the two times i went for a drink and had to wait 15mins for a beer as they were serving others food and making cocktails. I will make a point to follow this feedback up through the IHG Ambassador channels, but come on Intercontinental Melbourne, i want to stay more at the hotel, but you're letting yourselves down!! Lastly, post staying at your property in February, i went on to immediately stay at Intercontinental Adelaide, Wellington NZ & Auckland NZ properties, and sorry to say, you should be visiting these properties and learning how they provide top notch tasty canapes for their guests in the evenings. Hotel is nice, location is good, staff friendly and they are trying to do their best, but it seems in the background perhaps cost cutting has become apparent and the customers are now taking the brunt of it with lack of service and quality. For the price you pay, you can do better IHG.
