Reviews for Sasso Italiano

Sasso Italiano is a traditional Italian restaurant that offers indoor and outdoor door dining options. I had the pleasure of dining there on a Tuesday early evening. The restaurant opened at 5pm so it would make a great spot to have a meal before the movies. I was impressed by the friendly staff and the menu. Sasso offers their own twist to their dishes which makes it an exciting restaurant when exploring the menu. I ordered the house pickled sardines served with charred grilled ciabatta, red onion and pesto olive oil. It was delicious which paired perfectly with a glass of crisp Riesling. For main I decided on trying the seafood pizza which came in an extremely generous proportions and would be perfect to share. The sign of a good pizza is the base and the crust which were cooked exactly to perfection. The toppings were fresh and delicious. I opted to add anchovies to add a little saltiness to the combination. The experience was reasonably priced at $20-$30 per dish. I highly recommend trying Sasso pizzas.

I visited this restaurant with a few friends on Saturday night. I enjoy Italian cuisine and had some expectations given its CBD fringe location and higher price point. Some dishes fell short, the lamb cutlets were a bit fatty, the pasta was overly oily, and the portions, especially the pasta, felt a bit small, though the pizza was delicious. Furthermore, I reckon a warmer and more welcoming service would also improve the overall experience. I don’t mean the restaurant is not good; there’s just some room for improvement. I’d be open to trying again if things improve.

Sasso Italiano is absolutely a great Italian restaurant by any objective standard. You can tell from the dishes that the kitchen puts in real effort and care, and the flavors are very authentic. The pizza base, in particular, was impressively fluffy — probably one of the best I’ve had in any Italian restaurant. The service was also outstanding. I was waiting alone for my friend for about half an hour, and even though I hadn’t ordered yet, every staff member was attentive and made me feel very welcome and looked after. The space itself is beautifully designed and really adds to the experience. All in all, it was a lovely visit and I will definitely be back.

Came for the bottomless brunch package over the weekend. Food was delicious and service was great. Generous package. Attentive with replenishing drink orders. Would definitely recommend
