A lovely historic hotel with lots of character and spaces to sit and relax at the terrace bar and Eric’s bar. Perfect location to walk to many tourist sites and a wide range of close eating places and bars. Hickson House gin tasting and tour was great and only 5 minutes walk. We returned late one night and Moss at reception looked after us very graciously as we enjoyed a nightcap.

Lovely quaint hotel. Perfectly positioned to experience the Rocks area and Circular Quay. Service was so welcoming as soon as you stepped foot into the establishment. Feels as though you are entering a library without the feeling of having to be quiet. Rooms are clean and comfortable with an old day feel. Can be quite noisy with the unique alleyways presented behind, but I liked the vibe indeed. It was quite expensive for a standard room, $575/night, but the location makes it worthwhile. Plenty of eateries surrounding and morning coffee only footsteps away. 24-hour convenience store across road, which is also handy. I'd be back for sure.

My review is unusual as I was not a guest. My partner was a guest there and was boarding a cruise on 12/02.Being so close to Valentine's Day I wanted to surprise him with a gift on shore. I wrote to the hotel and was amazed at their optimistic response, there was no hesitation. Their excellence, effort & positivity from incredible Maxine & her team helped achieve the impossible within 24hrs.They are a busy hotel but yet they pulled out all the stops to make this happen. Also, kindly giving me the website of a local florist to contact, so useful, being that I live in spain. A delighted partner received his surprise hand delivered to his hotel room. It restored all my faith that such quality service still exists. Thank you Maxine so very much.

I have stayed here twice recently. The staff are very friendly and helpful but the rooms tend to be very small. This is due to the heritage nature of the building but could be made rather more obvious when one books. The location is second to none, in the middle of The Rocks, but this does mean that the environment can be noisy, especially in the evenings and early mornings. The restaurant's food is wonderful but the service, especially at breakfast, can be desperately chaotic, and on one occasion our order was "lost". The seats in the restaurant are incredibly uncomfortable and many of them are just planks of wood, with random (and ineffectual) cushions. If you have a bad back I would recommend eating standing up. Another fault of the restaurant seating is that a difficult-to-see gutter runs around the seating area; during one meal, one leg of my chair slid into it and almost pitched me onto the floor.

Great atmosphere, but you need to be careful with the charges. You could find yourself with a bill that's not yours. Happened during two (2) separate stays The best advice is not to put any charges on your room, pay in cash
