Went to the restaurant for lunch. Limited seating and very quiet so was slightly awkward with our somewhat noisy family. Amazing food and cocktails and was lovely sitting by the fire. Loved the historical feel of the place. Coffee was no good but I really enjoyed the experience overall.

What a shame! My husband and I stayed here for the June long weekend 2024. It’s sad to say despite the hotel’s incredible potential, we were let down by too many things to list here. The first room we were allocated smelled of stale pigeon droppings so pungent, that we could not stay. We went downstairs to reception to be told there were no other rooms available and they would offer a refund until one of the staff kindly offered up her room to us instead. Given this was a long weekend, it would have been very difficult for us to find alternative accommodation at short notice, so we accepted the staff member’s offer. The heater in our room was broken, there was no remote control for the television and no power points near the bed or anywhere in the bathroom, which makes it impossible to use a hair dryer (which is not supplied by the hotel anyway). There is also no phone available to contact reception, no tea or coffee facilities or bar fridge in the room. We booked a $20 pp breakfast on our first morning and found that none of the fire places were on and they had only put up a small plug-in heater that was so insufficient that most of the patrons (including ourselves) were forced to eat breakfast wearing scarves and jackets. There were no more mugs by 8:20am (breakfast starts at 8am), and they had run out of milk and sugar. There were plenty of other things amiss, so unfortunately the overall experience was pretty awful. I say it’s a shame because the hotel has endless potential if it wasn’t so run down and if the owners paid better attention to the needs of their guests. It would have been incredible in its hay day and I imagine the original owners would be turning in their graves if they saw the level of neglect.

The room was comfortable and reasonably priced, the hotel had character similar to the 1916 mountains cottage that I grew up in and the grounds were gorgeous when I went for a short walk after arriving and before breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful when I said I needed a quick breakfast as had to leave soon. It was a little quirky but I liked that. I am used to lugging my own makeup/hair bags everywhere and it was sort of refreshing not to have someone ask if I wanted them to take them as I never do. I also liked the fact that the tea/coffee urn was in the foyer as I heard guests chatting around it early in the evening.

My husband and I stayed August 2024 in room 202 and were very disappointed. In short, we wouldn't stay again and it offered poor value for money. Cleanliness; - bathroom floor appeared dirty, rust on floor, tiles missing, felt like footy showers in the 80s, I seriously regretted not having brought my thongs to shower in. There was also thick dust on top of the border tile, previous guest hair on tiles surrounding sink, the rubbish bin was placed under the S bend to catch a leak and the toilet brush holder was also rusty. Comfort; - although a king bed in a spacious room, the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. - as others have said, no fan, no air con, no fly screen on the window, no other amenities such as a fridge or kettle. - 1 play toilet paper was a but average. - shower was hot and pressure good, but it seemed to pulse meaning you were switching between steaming hot and cold General; - absolutely stunning scenery, really the only positive. - Hotel/room and subsequently all our belongings stank of smoke from the wood fire (in the lobby, 2 floors down). - the parking situation is inadequate and the one way/one lane driveway exit is like a goat track. - only powerpoint is in the room, really hard to do your hair, especially when staying for a function. - no elevators and given its design/age has quite a number of stairs due to the ceiling heights. This becomes an issue when you move around your baggage, which is made even worse by the parking situation. It is a beautiful old building in a beautiful location but it gives off the vibe of cheap highway motel as opposed to anything regal. I fully understand that a building of this type and age would pose unique challenges as a modern hotel, however some of these issues rest solely woth the operator and not the structure. That said, I have stayed in that type of motel previously, and at times have found some of them to be in far better order and much cleaner as well as better value. We have not left this review to hammer the business or staff, we've only done this to be honest for future guests. We paid $339 for a Friday night however, given the experience I would still have concerns if the price was less than half that. Please see photos.

Fantastic experience. We take a weekend away each year for Christmas in July. Each year is better than the last. A lot of effort to give a cozy, authentic experience. Special shout-out to the Italian maestro, Lucas, firing on all cylinders the whole weekend.
