We had no problem with our room. Could use a few amenities products in the room for guests' convenience and potential additional sales for the hotel such as milk, tea, coffee, and snacks. Probably additional towels will be useful too. The room is big enough for a family or group of 4 guests. But there were only 2 towels available.
Rooms are not huge but plenty for sleeping and relaxing in. 2 huge beds, possibly queen size. Lovely toiletries and soft towels. Little balcony with 2 chairs and small table. You CAN see a bit of the beach and also across to the mountains. Nice in the early evening to sit on the balcony and watch the sunset. Breakfast is $25 buffet style. Great for big eaters. One negative thing for me was no cold water in the fridge. Not even a bottle of water. Could have boiled the jug, but nothing to put it in to cool it. If you stay byp bottled water or a big jug to cool your own. Tap water on the Goldie is vile unless you are used to it.
DO NOT BOOK OF TRAVELLING WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. The hotel is dated and at the price they charge, it's extortionate. While central location is handy, due to the lack of double glazed windows that no longer work properly, it is very noisy, regardless of the level or the side you're on. Also, beware of booking city view rooms. There is a club next door that stays open from 12 pm to 1am, so if you have kids, it's not suitable at all. Yet, they thought it was a good idea to put us right above the club with two kids under 5. First we were on Level 14, where the music from the club reminded us of solo travels while staying at backpackers in our youth. Then they moved us to Level 5, which was much better but the traffic noise was still pretty loud, despite all windows being shut. Our initial request for room change was ignored, until we threatened to leave and a room magically appeared. That is the only reason I have given it one stars, otherwise it would have been zero, even though there's no such option available. Never staying at any Mantra branded hotel again. This property in particular should be rated 3 stars max.
You get what you pay for. We got a worn, tired room with brown stained lampshades and curtains, paint peeling off the walls and mould in the bathroom. Whilst the actual location is great, the nightclub next door is so loud and the sound proofing is totally inadequate. The service was average. Reception kept us waiting to check in with 3 or 4 people behind the desk not tending to anyone but just standing there / on the computer / running around. Zero acknowledgement which felt painful at the end of an already long journey. Don't stay here, it's just not worth it... you'd find better air bnbs / motels / hotels for the same price. This hotel is 2-3 stars at most. Don't be fooled by the nice lobby... seemingly that's where they've put all the profit.
After initial reservations after reading some average reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. The service was amazing the location perfect. We had asked for a room away from the night club and it was accommodated. The room was clean and was comfortable. The only suggestion I would have is to provide some plates and cutlery in each room and a microwave. No everyone wants to come down stairs to use the microwave. Otherwisei cannot complain
