About the venue
Sitting on the north end of Brunswick Street, the somewhat recently renovated Royal Derby Hotel brings it, old-school pub style. It’s a well-loved local in the area, with trivia nights, uni nights, parma nights and just about every other night in between. It’s often a task to find a truly old-school pub nowadays, but the Royal Derby does manage to make the hunt ever so slightly easier. The Royal Derby succeeds at said easing-of-the-hunt by keeping it simple. The selection of beer is concise but varied, with a good collection on tap. The food is standard pub favourites, but the team at the Royal Derby have focused their attention on high-quality fresh produce. As far as function venues go, the Royal Derby takes reservations for smaller groups, while also offering a private function room. There’s a DJ section in there, as well as a screen for product launches, corporate functions, and slideshows of embarrassing 21st-birthday photos. The Royal Derby does old-school pub, and they do it well. The Royal Derby Hotel is also known as a sports pub to cater to all your live sports including AFL, rugby union, soccer and all the main UFC events. Spend your Saturday night here and enjoy their steak night or trivia night. They even have a pool table! The Royal Derby is located on the corner of Brunswick Street and Alexandra Parade. It’s stupidly convenient to get to. It’s a few minutes from the city by cab, on the 112 tram, on your bike or on your feet.

The hotel has an amazing location in a charming area and is placed right next to a tram stop that takes you to the CBD. The rooms are cute and clean. Overall the staff is super friendly and the accommodation manager Davinia made me feel so warm and welcomed! She helped me switch around rooms, made sure I was taken care of my whole stay and it was always nice to run into her in the hallways because of her sweet and friendly attitude. Would recommend til place for sure!

Pleasant for a pub room. Comfortable bed, decent sized room, good location, fair prices, adequate facilities. The shower ceilings could do with a lick of paint and the soap dispensers in the bathrooms and toilets were ripped off the walls. I did see a big cockroach in the shower area but they don't eat much. Shower pressure was decent. I didn't try their wifi. I really wish they had air-conditioning as it was really hot. The pedestal fan helped. Id recommend to people but only if it's like less than a 28 degree day, as the room stayed hot for a long time.

I booked two nights here but after the first night I couldn’t stay another. The accommodation was really well priced but sadly I got what I paid for. The room was not well ventilated and the small fan was useless. I had to open both the windows but the room sits above a busy road so consequently was too loud to get any rest. The room was safe and clean enough but disappointingly couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep.

Went to the derby for the Tyson vs Paul fight and it was such a great atmosphere, pub was busy, cold beer and food was great, the fight froze a few times but what do you expect from a fight streamed through Netflix We use to go to a pub close by for the flights but will make this place our new local. Will be back tomorrow for the UFC
