Sun beaming down on the table we were allocated. Staff did their best to accomodate us. The music was weird (opera type, somber, not Sunday party music) and by 2pm we pretty much had the place/atrium room to ourselves. With no people in there, there was no atmosphere, so we left early. Shame as I remember the days when Sundays at this place were pumping and you couldn’t get a table…. Oh, my Parma was spot on by the way. Delish.
My family and I went to The Smith in Prahran for a Christmas lunch. We thought we’d do something different and it had a fantastic looking menu for the day. The only problem that we encountered was they were obviously very booked up for this event and they had double sittings and it was very hard on the staff and the staff were faultless to be honest. It was an extremely hot day around 35 degrees centigrade and the staff were literally run off their feet. They really looked after us and they went well out of their way to help us with everything. I actually felt that the food probably wasn’t up to standard and I feel really dissatisfied about that because I was expecting more from the Smith and I have been a long time supporter of them. I’m actually going to give my own feedback to The Smith and just let them know now of this experience directly. It is not a complaint however more an observation. The staff were very under the pump all day, and they could t be any more courteous. I am sure that the venue manager would have identified with that situation themselves but really it was an expensive lunch expensive/ wine. We were quite happy to pay the money for a great day out however one thing that we did find the food just let it down on the day.
We went for drag brunch on Sunday. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warm and friendly staff who made us feel right at home. Their genuine hospitality and attentiveness truly set the tone for a wonderful afternoon. Overall, The Smith exceeded all my expectations. The exceptional staff, charming atmosphere, and tasty food make it a must-visit. The entertainers were also fantastic and very engaging. Happy to take photos and have a chat after the event as well.
Such a brilliant atmosphere. The place was full of red roses and flowers. The house wine is a must try!! Lovely food and drinks.
Christmas lunch you expect to pay overs but this was taking the piss. Limp seafood including prawns that had not been de veined and terrine that was chopped by someone with 10 thumbs kicked it off. The waitress then commenced scraping off the seafood juice at the table informing us that we were going to be using the same plates (poo shoot and all) for main!! When insisting on new plates we were met with a huff and told it may take a while to get new plates. The main platters arrived and the ham was the type you’d expect would come with a pineapple ring on top, the turkey no better. Sides were nice and probably the best thing served all day. It’s a bit cheeky to serve a steamed sponge for Christmas pudding but I suppose it didn’t stipulate plum pudding. I guess it’s all in the words. The cheese board was cut by the same person who cut the terrine and came out with 5 crackers and no knife ( I suppose we were meant to use the fish knife for this). Overall a nice setting but I have seen better bathrooms in a New Delhi railway station. They clearly had not been cleaned all day. Staff tried their hardest, but I feel the corporate handcuffs going for max profit ruined the experience. First and probably last time we’ll go out for Xmas lunch and to the Smith Hotel.
