What a special experience to have stayed at The Langham, Melbourne! The entire experience from when you walk in the door to their good bye was wonderful. When you walk in the door you are greeted with friendly smiling faces and beautiful smelling flowers. The staff were all polite and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable (as expected) and my husband surprise me with a boutique of flowers and they were more than happy to get me a vase to keep them fresh in the room! If you get a chance to book, even just for a night, do it. You won’t be disappointed! I did get one of the pink and gold pens as a memento for our trip away, but unfortunately I think it’s since fallen out of my handbag. If there’s a chance to buy one and have it posted I would be very interested, but I can’t see these online anywhere.
I stayed for a week and it was a work trip. Considering it’s like a 5 star hotel, service is definitely lacking. They are not proactive. Buffet breakfast is fantastic with plenty to choose from. Gym is well equipped and perfect location for your walk or run. They offer a 12pm checkout which can be beneficial. I believe their dinner buffets are excellent with best Indian food however I haven’t tried it .
Stayed at the Langham twice in a short time, absolutely loved it. The charm of the hotel, the beautiful Christmas Decorations, amazing friendly staff, spaceful rooms and very very comfortable beds (event the roll-in bed for my son). Location is perfect. Food and Cocktails were delicious.
A bit of a mixed experience. On one hand, the spacious and old world luxury rooms are charming and comfortable. Equally delightful is the expansive buffet and the very convenient/central location. On the other hand, particularly during the peak season which we visited, the understaffed service buckles, resulting in anything but “five-star” service. Arguably, some of the mishaps which occurred during our stay shouldn’t, no matter how busy the establishment. Cue barging in on hotel guests in their natural state (without knocking), misplacing luggage for hours on end, and ringing the bell everyday to ask if the minibar needs to be restocked (why can’t the daily housekeeping check for this)? The check-in experience was somewhat abrupt. A no-negotiation $100/night/room bond seems reasonable for a short stay: less so if you are booking 2 rooms for 6 nights. The lack of flexibility and reasonableness in this regard was surprising.
Location and the views are hard to beat, and I’m sure the housekeeping and lounge staff really do try their best, but a 5 star hotel this is not. Yes it’s unfortunate about the construction noise, but this is not the main issue: the overall feeling is that management is trying to get the last juice out of a squeezed lemon, and the subtle rudeness that a naive traveller might attribute to an air of exclusivity. Cutting costs everywhere is why things just fail to work. My experience is: avoid!
