Reviews for East Hotel Canberra
Shadow Zarzour
I don’t usually write reviews, but this hotel truly deserves one. I travel to Canberra around four times a year and have stayed at many different hotels, but East Hotel is a clear standout. Everything about it is exceptional — the location is ideal, the rooms are spotless, and the restaurant serves delicious, authentic Italian food. What really makes the difference, though, is the staff — they’re all genuinely friendly, professional, and always willing to help. I honestly can’t fault this hotel. East Hotel has become my top choice whenever I’m in Canberra

This was my first stay at East Hotel, and while I’m unsure I’d stay here again, I would definitely return for the restaurant and bar alone. The food was a real standout — the pizzas were exceptional and hard to go past, and the bar had a great selection of drinks. It’s a fantastic spot to meet up with colleagues in a relaxed and vibrant setting. Unfortunately, the hotel experience didn’t quite match the quality of the dining. While the customer service was friendly, the room itself was a letdown. It felt consistently cold and never quite warmed up, which made it uncomfortable during a winter stay. Similarly, the water temperature only ever reached lukewarm — both morning and night. For business travellers, the lighting and desk setup weren’t ideal for extended work sessions, especially compared to other accommodation options in Canberra. On the plus side, the room was spacious and comfortable overall. I wouldn’t recommend East Hotel for winter stays, but I’d consider it again in warmer months — especially if dining is part of the plan.

Great rooms. Seamless service. Smiling, knowledgeable staff. Top notch food and drinks. Central location. If you travel to Canberra, stay here. 3 of the best eating/drinking venues in Canberra are on sites. Joes bar and Cafe where you will be served by Lucas and team. A man who knows his cocktails. I asked for an Old fashioned and got the best version I have had anywhere. Dinner the Korean/Japanese fusion restaurant the night before was unforgettable. Order sashimi and Japanese beer. Fabulous. Concierge staff were attentive and friendly. Coming back soon.

Disappointing stay for a 4-star hotel. While East Hotel was clean overall and conveniently located with good dining options nearby, the bathroom in my room really let the experience down. There was visible mould along the shower edges and sink sealant, and the shower head leaked when turned on, causing water to spray unevenly. The shower leaked water out into the main bathroom area, and the towels were frayed, not what you’d expect from a 4-star property. The pillows were soft and lumpy, making for an uncomfortable sleep, and there didn’t seem to be a kettle anywhere in the room: quite unusual for a hotel of this standard. Small details also missed the mark: amenities like facial pads and earbuds weren’t restocked during my three-night stay, and one small packet (two pads and three cotton buds) just isn’t enough. My colleague’s room also had a persistent stale, drain-like odour, which made it unpleasant to be in. Staff were polite and check-in was easy, but overall, the hotel feels like it’s resting on its reputation rather than maintaining true 4-star standards.

It took three attempts to get us into the appropriate room. First room was the wrong room Second smelt like human feaces Third had the wrong bed and was filthy, dusty and the carpet was awful. The bathroom had mould. I coughed all night from the dust. There was no care that we were moved three times. There was toothpaste marks in the bathroom and it smelt too. Do not stay here it was filthy.
