Reviews for Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart

We had a city facing room which was fine. On each floor there was a corner lounge overlooking the harbour which was a great feature. Pool was fine. Just one night for us and overall would stay again. I’d suggest an upgrade to the gym equipment. Bit cheap and out of date. Service was fine but when guests arrive and there’s three staff, you’re the only guests checking in, and none look up, I never find that a great welcome. Suggestion is, look up, greet, and say I’ll be with you in a moment. The little things make a difference.

Rooms are huge and the views out over the harbour are a treat to wake up to. Staff are friendly and accommodating of any guests needs. Location on the waterfront means you are within a short walk of most of the city's amenities. Thanks for looking after us - another great stay at HGCH.

The hotel has an excellent location with a beautiful view from the room. Unfortunately, my experience at their Tasman Restaurant during my stay from 30/09/2025 to 01/10/2025 was very disappointing. Since we had prepaid for breakfast, my wife, two daughters, and I went directly to the restaurant around 7 am in good spirits. At the entrance, two ladies were standing at the reception, engaged in conversation. One of them, I later discovered, was the supervisor. Despite clearly seeing us arrive, they neither greeted us nor acknowledged our presence. After waiting for their attention and receiving none, we proceeded toward a table. As we did, a young Asian staff member approached on the way and asked for our room number. When I provided it, she asked whether we had paid for breakfast. I explained that regardless of my answer, it was her responsibility to verify the booking and she will do so when i say room number which i have already provided. At that point, she rudely remarked that I should “speak nicely in front of my children.” This was completely unprofessional and upsetting. When I expressed my displeasure, she remained rude throughout and never offered an apology. I then approached the supervisor at the reception, but she seemed uninterested in listening to my concerns. It was clear she had already been briefed by her colleague and sided with her without hearing me out. Instead of apologizing or trying to resolve the issue, she spoke dismissively and told me to go and find a table. For a hotel of this standard and price, such poor service is unacceptable. Staff should confirm breakfast payments at the reception, not approach guests in a way that makes them feel unwelcome or as if they are trying to access services without paying. The lack of basic courtesy, professionalism, and willingness to apologize made the entire experience unpleasant. If I could, I would give the restaurant service zero stars. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone who expects quality customer service.

A good holiday starts with a good place to stay. This hotel was excellent. Clean rooms, best views and front desk helped out with absolutely everything. Self service laundry was handy for a longer stay or just to wash off the mud from all the hikes.

Definitely one of my favourite hotels I stay in the world. The reception staff always give me my requested Harbour view room which I really appreciate. This hotel has stunning views everywhere and the service and food are excellent. I also love the heated swimming pool and gym
