The hotel itself was in a great location, the bed was comfy but that’s where it all stops. The money you pay you would think it has style and up market. But unfortunately things in my room were falling apart was old mouldy and filthy. The tv didn’t work properly internet wouldn’t connect carpet was dirty fridge broken. It was like we were staying in a pub. Breakfast buffet I was so excited for this as I stay around in many venues I would sadly say this is my worst I would be more excited for McDonalds. Nothing much was to offer in the buffet and what they had was stone cold. The cake selection was one tiny muffin brought in tomato’s were sad no toppings for the cold pancakes so kids were devastated. Plates were dirty on the shelf not much cutlery even had to have take away cups as the man said it’s easier to serve just takeaways. I had to as a waiter to clean a table as all tables were filled with plates and rubbish it is a great reflection to why the room was just as filthy. I wish I read all the reviews I will not be sending any of my family or staff here. Not worth paying for.

To be honest for what I paid for which included a free upgrade to a superior king room with breakfast included it really isn't worth the money. I have pictures of the room and the way it actually looks compared to what rydges has on its website as they don't really give you much pictures, there is no button to turn on while showering for ventilation, there is mold under the soap holder in the shower, there's white stuff on the tap just near the bathroom, they have broken cupboards, whatever that thing is called behind the door, bulging wall etc (the list goes on), to the owners of rydges, if you're making X amount of money each day, week and every year renting these rooms out this bed that I just put also shows for a superior King bed how dent and inward it is and you actually sink in it the side closest to the walk way, spend money and get new beds and fix up these rooms

Upon arrival, I thought our stay would be fantastic. The foyer was quite nice, and check-in was easy. However, we were disappointed when we got to our room, as we discovered that we did not have a window that faced the outdoors. Rather, it overlooked the bar area and was adjacent to a walkway. This meant we had 2 choices: a) have the black-out curtains open and be completely exposed to everyone outside our room or b) keep them shut and feel claustrophobic. The sheer curtains offered no privacy. The room is dated and decorated in dark shades of brown, so we felt very closed-in. The pool was a hit for my son, and the spa was a nice temperature but I had to steel myself and look away from the grungy, dirty ring around the edge. The sauna, which I had been looking forward to, was out of order. To top all of this, on our second night (a Friday) we returned from dinner out to discover a massive party being thrown in the bar/restaurant below. We literally had full view, plus the volume, of a huge birthday celebration. The music kept my son awake, but thankfully was cut off at 10:30pm. I was disappointed that a hotel with so many families and small children staying would be inconsiderate enough to book a loud event late into the evening, in a central area of the hotel. I expected to pay for parking, as I had seen it in the reviews, but it was none-the-less annoying. The only positive comment I can make is about the staff, as they were incredibly kind and helpful, and very apologetic about the party noise. I felt bad that they were the ones who had to cop it from guests. With so many other options in Canberra, we won’t be booking here again.

A solid and reliable hotel with real potential to be outstanding. Rooms are comfortable and you’ll have a great night’s sleep, but the layout and décor feel dated. A full interior refresh would make a noticeable difference and bring the property in line with what modern travellers expect. Breakfast and restaurant — genuinely excellent. Great variety, well presented, and attentive service. A real highlight of the stay. Parking at $25/night is the one frustration. For a hotel of this category, parking should be included. It’s a small thing that leaves a sour note on an otherwise good experience. Overall, Rydges Canberra is a great base in the capital. With a room renovation and complimentary parking, this is easily a 5-star property. Looking forward to seeing it evolve.

Unfortunately, our stay at Rydges Canberra was disappointing. The bathroom cleanliness was well below what we would expect from a hotel of this standard. There was visible mould and staining around the shower and tiled areas, the shower drainage was extremely poor and caused water to flood across the bathroom floor, and the bathroom amenities were not properly stocked, with no body wash or shampoo available on arrival. While the staff were polite, the condition of the room significantly impacted our experience. Cleanliness and maintenance are basic expectations when staying in a hotel, and unfortunately this property did not meet those standards during our visit. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean and well-maintained place to stay.
