We booked the Savoy Hotel’s Christmas lunch on 25 December 2024 at the savoy restaurant for a group of 10 people at $250 per head (excluding drinks), hoping to make this a special occasion and spoil ourselves. We checked the menu beforehand, which looked fantastic, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. At $250 per person, we expected top-quality food, but the buffet was a major letdown. The quality of the dishes did not match the quality of what we paid for, and the desserts, in particular, looked like they came out of a packet rather than being homemade. This was far below the standard we had anticipated. Service: It took far too long for plates to be cleared from the table, which disrupted the flow of the meal and made the experience less enjoyable. Value for Money: The sitting was limited to just 1.5 hours (1:30 pm to 3:00 pm), which felt rushed for a Christmas lunch. We were moved on quickly, leaving no time to relax or enjoy the occasion properly. We complained to the manager about the quality of the food and overall experience, but they didn’t even apologize or offer any compensation. Not even drinks were covered as a gesture of goodwill. We left feeling extremely disappointed and that the experience did not justify the significant cost. We had high hopes for this lunch but were left with a bitter taste from what was supposed to be a memorable Christmas celebration.

Great location and lovely building but let down by bed and room amenities. The king bed was actually two twin beds zipped together with a noticeable chasm between. I asked about a bed topper and was assured they had put one on but it made no difference. I don’t mind zipping beds together for flexible room configuration but a quality hotel should invest in a thick enough topper so it’s not noticeable to guests. I was also disappointed by the lack of bathrobes, which should be standard in 4 - 5 star hotel, and the shower flooded the floor. Breakfast was decent quality, staff were friendly and room toiletries were lovely. We also appreciated them holding bags for us after check out.

Booked the King Executive room for the New Year's Eve. Room was fairly spacious and well presented. The bit of a downer was both TVs were not working. Had the hotel staff and finally the manager Richard come and try and fix it to no avail and no other equivalent room was available for us. The manager Richard was gracious in enough to offer breakfast and drinks to compensate. We had a comfortable stay and the hotel breakfast was good. Great Location!!

The location is fantastic, just right opposite the Southern Cross Station and Tram stops. There's also a nearby convenience store. Staff was extremely friendly and lovely. Good value for money for Melbourne price too. I wouldn't say it was 5 star luxury by it was just what I needed for a Melbourne city short trip. Will come again for my stopover next time!

Recently stayed 4 nights in a king room facing Little Collins St. on 9th floor. Pros: Excellent location within short walk to tram on Spencer/Flinders to attend AO Quiet Front desk staff helpful/friendly Comfortable bed Breakfast was decent (low point was the fruit some of which looked to be canned) Visually appealing Great shower water pressure Cons: Housekeeping. At the hotels we stayed at in Sydney and Port Douglas, housekeeping replaced the towels with an adequate number and swept the floor. During our stay, the bathroom floor was never swept. Also, leaving 0-1 washcloths for a 2 person stay in nonsense. I had to call for washcloths. When I asked the housekeeper for extra towels, she said no it was against the rules. Even the mid tier US chains like Courtyard by Marriott leave adequate towels and clean the bathroom at least once during a 3 day visit. We are not messy people so this was odd and disappointing The room is compact which is not unusual in an older refurbished property so not a con. Just setting expectations . There is a desk and chair but no other seating other than bed. The ironing board in closet takes up valuable hanging space.
