Reviews for Tallboy & Moose

Food was tasty. Beer was good. Service was a bit slow, however it was Fathers Day and very busy.

Tallboy & Moose has been my favourite of all the brewery, pubs and bars in the area since I moved down from Sydney. The brewery has a super chill vibe both inside and outside. The inside section has a lot of seating and includes a pool table and air hockey table. It’s perfect for small and large groups including families with little children. The outside area has a lot of seating as well but mainly for smaller groups and a section with long tables for large groups. It also features large umbrellas to shield from the sun/rain. The brewery has a large variety of beers/ales etc on tap and for takeaway. They also have a kitchen with a fairly extensive menu including a few vegetarian/vegan options. During the colder months they have a fire going inside and a couch with some lounge chairs by the fireplace. As for events they run trivia nights every week and wrestling on occasion. A huge bonus is the venue is entirely dog friendly, both inside and out, just make sure they’re on lead and being a good boy/girl. Keen to make it back to Tallboy. Looking forward to a pint!

The beer might be what pulls people in, but Tallboy’s real magic is in the staff, the relaxed warehouse vibes, and yes - the chips. It's got that DIY charm: cheap timber walls, minimal frills, and a space that feels like it was thrown together with love and leftover materials. The result? Something authentically inviting, not just convieniently close to home. Now, don’t get me wrong - the ever-rotating tap list is a wild ride and worth the visit. It’s a bit like going to GABS: you're guaranteed to try something you didn’t even know existed (and might not want to again). I’ve never had a bad beer here - just some that were, shall we say, challenging. If you're looking for a trusty go-to brew, this may not be your happy place. But if you like beer roulette, you’re in the right joint. It’s a locals-first venue, and you can feel it - families, neighbours, and the occasional out-of-towner who looks like they meant to go to Welcome to Thornbury and just kept walking. The staff are lovely but clear: if you bring kids, keep them close. After 8pm, it’s adults-only, which feels like a public service announcement. Inside, the noise levels are usually bearable, but if it gets too much, there’s a cracking outdoor area. (And Darebin Council - seriously, give T&M their extra space back already.) The food’s also a winner. Pub snacks that punch above their weight (those chicken wings!), weekly deals, a standout parma burger, and prices that feel fair - especially in a neighbourhood where a pint can cost more than a round-trip Myki fare. There might be shinier bars within walking distance, but Tallboy has earned its place as a locals’ favourite. It’s not trying to be the coolest bar in town - just the one you actually want to come back to. And that, honestly, is worth a lot.

A chilled place to take shelter on a rainy afternoon with your friends. Take a sip of your drink, take a bite, and catch up on the gossip! Very hip decor 👌 with activities like trivia night or soccer table, etc. The staff were also quite nice and helpful. The only thing that bothered me were the prices. It seemed dear compared to other similar places. The food is nice and tasty but not worthy of such a price which i feel like is mainly due to the location.

Went there for our anniversary lunch today. Very relaxed space. Good food and drinks. Strange they ran out of ginger beer so didn't get my drink of choice but food was amazing. Not in your face staff. Laid back and friendly. Would definitely come back again. Kids had space. VERY RARE in pubs. Family friendly. Plenty of toilets.
