•Melbourne's Hotel Grand Chancellor is a four-star boutique hotel found right in the vibrant, beating heart of the city - in the theatre precinct, in the gateway to Chinatown, and within a stone's throw of the business district. Aside from being immensely popular with those visiting Melbourne to take in the sights, sounds and culture of the city on holiday, the Hotel Grand Chancellor also features a number of spaces for meetings and events. Six well appointed meeting rooms provide space to get the team or key stakeholders together away from the confines of the office. When it comes to larger events - like banquets or conferences - the Hotel Grand Chancellor easily hosts them too. Think informal events like networking breakfasts, all the way to professionally executed seminars.

Stayed here in November. Firstly the location was perfect for me, I could walk straight out into some of Melbournes most popular areas. The trams are free in the CBD. The hotel in general needed a bit of a refresh. It didn’t help the pool’s out of action, the lift for my floor was through some staff entrance due to the normal ones being fixed. The room however was very nice, clean, spacious and comfortable. I used the gym which is basic and lacked air con so had to make the best of a fan, but I managed to do an hour on the cable machine. I’d probably try somewhere different next time, but I did enjoy my stay here.
Staff are so nice and very helpful 24 hour room service and the meals are amazing! Rooms are clean, beds are comfy and showers are clean and warm. Location is perfect, right around the corner from Melbourne Central so if you wanted to train down it'd only be a short walk from Melbourne Central itself.
The staff here were very friendly and helpful while we were staying here. Lawrence in particular helped us with finding parking spaces and organising our luggage to be held even after we checked out to help us on our last day. While we were there, there was some construction going on that would continue over the weekends, so sleeping in wasn’t an option. It was very loud and one of the days we had to take the stairs because they were working on the elevators. Though this wasn’t an issue for us, I do feel for anyone who needs mobility aids or other disabilities that would not be able to make it to their rooms. The rooms were alright but the real downfall was the bathroom. The shower did not have a door and spilled water out everywhere. The poor design meant we had to ask for extra towels so that we didn’t slip on the floor after each shower. The water also made the toilet seats wet and cold. Although the rooms were quite underwhelming, the location and price that we got it for was amazing. Right in the centre of Melbourne near everything you want it to be near, it’s hard to ask for more than that!
I have had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Chancellor on two separate occasions, and both experiences were excellent. During my most recent visit with my partner, we opted for a classic king room, and we were thoroughly impressed. The room was exceptionally spacious and impeccably clean, featuring a large king bed with extra blankets and robes provided. The bathroom was stocked with complimentary toiletries including a toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving kit, soaps, and sanitary kits—an impressive array of amenities not commonly found in other hotels. The hotel's location in the heart of Melbourne CBD is fantastic, with close proximity to Parliament and Melbourne Central train stations, as well as the tram line. The ground floor bar and restaurant offered great happy hour deals, and the hotel also provides 24-hour room service for added convenience. One of the highlights is the rooftop pool, though I didn't get to enjoy it during my recent visit due to the chilly Melbourne weather. However, on my previous stay in 2018, it was great to relax on the edge while my friends swam. Throughout our stay, the staff we encountered at both the reception desk and the bar were delightful and extremely helpful. If I were to mention any minor inconveniences, it would be that the bathroom tended to flood easily due to the narrow shower screen, causing water to splash onto the floor with movement. However, this issue is relatively minor and wouldn't deter me from returning to the Grand Chancellor. Overall, I recommend the Grand Chancellor for its convenience, excellent facilities, and attentive service.
Fair value when under $200/night, overpriced when above that. Central location right next to Chinatown and theatres. Rooms tidy, modern and clean. Front desk service could use a smile, and be more helpful. No views. Undergoing upgrades, so can be noisy and the elevators were not all in service.
