Why you'll love Hotel Windsor Melbourne

  • Features a warm and glamorous spaces, softly lit and full of grandeur and charm, with high ceilings, antique furnishings and glorious period detail from a bygone era.
  • Offers luxurious guest rooms, free Wi-fi, first class AV facilities and flexible events catering options.
  • Conveniently accessible by Melbourne’s public transport and only walking distance to many of the city’s landmarks and attractions.

The Hotel Windsor Melbourne is Australia's most cherished and iconic five-star grand hotel. It first opened its doors in 1883 and is older than The Plaza and the Waldorf-Astoria in New York and The Savoy in London. It has since grown into what can be considered Melbourne's own little piece of history right on Spring Street. The Windsor Hotel is one of Melbourne's most impressive places to host an event, and for good reason.

The venue offers a backdrop that teams old-world elegance with modern convenience (and very talented professionals behind the scenes). Weddings especially will be treated to this prestigious setting whilst conferences or meetings can be held in any number of meeting rooms available on site.

The renovated Windsor Hotel was the site of an eventful royal visit in 1923. The hotel's opening ceremony featured a lunch attended by His Royal Highness, the Prince Of Wales. To commemorate this occasion, the owners renamed the property to "The Windsor." Today, this grand hotel remains a Melbourne landmark and possibly the finest five-star hotel in the city. Guests staying at the Hotel Windsor are treated to luxe accommodations, glorious dining (including a memorable high tea experience) and warm service.

Upon arrival at 11am on day of check in we were made to feel unwelcome and an inconvenience to the front desk and concierge for trying to leave luggage. Gentleman on concierge said “it’s a bit early” when we asked to leave our bags at 11am. It felt like our age and dress suggested we were not welcome to such a “prestigious” venue. When we later arrived to check in the receptionist was very welcoming and very helpful. Upon entering the room we were very disappointed with the overall quality of the decor of the bedroom and bathroom. There was a gap in the entrance door allowing lots of noise through, the bathroom was verging on unacceptable for a budget hotel let alone a luxury stay. The bathroom taps leaked throughout the duration and mastering the shower mixer between scalding and icy cold required the hands of a surgeon. The bed was very comfortable and did help for a good sleep, however we were awoken throughout the night due to people walking the corridor. After checking out we again needed to leave our bags with concierge for the day which felt like a burden for the team after we waited for 5 minutes for someone to help. Overall this was a very disappointing stay for the price charged and the expectation of a luxury hotel. The location and the exterior of the hotel are fantastic but the staff and interior massively let it down. What may have been a luxury stay in the 90s is crying out for a modern overhaul and a smile.

It didn't feel like a 5-star hotel. Yesterday, the weather was 40 degrees, so I wanted to check in a bit earlier, but the woman at the reception desk inside without any explanation spoke in a rather unfriendly tone and told me to leave my luggage and come back at 3 PM. It also took a long time to check in because they struggled to find my name saying there were many people with the same last name. The room itself was so poorly maintained that I couldn't tell if it was a hotel or not. Even though it's a heritage building the interior and service made it hard to believe it was a 5-star hotel. However, I appreciated the porter and reception staff who worked diligently during the early morning hours which allowed me to leave on a more positive note this morning.

We have always loved The Hotel Windsor. It has soul or atmosphere or an old world elegance about it that has always appealed to us. We were warmly welcomed by the front desk staff. As we were staying for 5 days we lashed out on one of their Windsor Suites which did not disappoint. It was the perfect home away from home and a good starting point from which we were able to walk to the various shows we attended and view some of Melbourne. Breakfast in the dining room was a great way to start the day. Room service for a couple of the evenings was prompt and perfect, delivered by personable and amiable staff. The High Tea on Sunday was very enjoyable and since we attended the 2.30pm sitting ensured that there was no need for another meal that evening as there was such a variety of sweets and savouries to partake. Just walking down the elegant centre staircase each day or strolling through the hallways were experiences to be enjoyed. What can I say...we love The Hotel Windsor.

Wonderful high tea today at the Hotel Windsor, and it's reputation as the paramount location for high tea is well deserved. I did not leave hungry! Gorgeous front room and the chocolate fountain and Petit dessert buffet selection was delicious and so pretty. Service was outstanding.

Lovely to stay at the Windsor once again. Room overlooking Spring St was spacious and elegant. Bed & linen divine. I don’t believe the bathroom floor had been washed as there were ? water stains on the floor and front of toilet. The lifts and reception area is a bit jaded now and could do with a remodel. Staff we’re efficient.
