•The Hotel Windsor Melbourne is Australia's most cherished and iconic five-star grand hotel. It first opened its doors in 1883 and is older than The Plaza and the Waldorf-Astoria in New York and The Savoy in London. It has since grown into what can be considered Melbourne's own little piece of history right on Spring Street. The Windsor Hotel is one of Melbourne's most impressive places to host an event, and for good reason.
The venue offers a backdrop that teams old-world elegance with modern convenience (and very talented professionals behind the scenes). Weddings especially will be treated to this prestigious setting whilst conferences or meetings can be held in any number of meeting rooms available on site.
The renovated Windsor Hotel was the site of an eventful royal visit in 1923. The hotel's opening ceremony featured a lunch attended by His Royal Highness, the Prince Of Wales. To commemorate this occasion, the owners renamed the property to "The Windsor." Today, this grand hotel remains a Melbourne landmark and possibly the finest five-star hotel in the city. Guests staying at the Hotel Windsor are treated to luxe accommodations, glorious dining (including a memorable high tea experience) and warm service.
The Canberra Room reflects the traditional beauty of the hotel and is popular for a diverse range of mid-sized events. It provides an excellent setting for a range of events from boardroom meetings to small conferences or intimate dinners.

My husband and I spent our second wedding anniversary in Melbourne. I thought it would be lovely to spend our final evening and morning at The Hotel Windsor. It was a great decision. The hotel is stunning. The concierge and staff were very kind and helpful- holding our bags all day while we went to Phillip Island and placing them in our room before arrival. We checked in at 11pm and were given an extra hour to check out which was much appreciated. Breakfast was fantastic as well as High Tea. I had an error with my booking for the tea room and the hotel worked with me and my third party so that we wouldn’t miss out on the plans that we had made in December- 5 months prior. I felt very appreciative for all the kindness and courtesy. We were able to truly relax and enjoy our final day in luxury. The dining room staff and supervisor couldn’t have been more hospitable. Thank you for that. ❤️
I've been wanting to stay at The Hotel Windsor for a very long time, and a recent trip to Melbourne for Sunset Boulevard at The Princess Theatre finally gave me the excuse. We stayed in a junior suite, and I really enjoyed the sense of history that you get throughout the building. Every other "historic" hotel I've stayed in before this has been converted into a hotel. The Windsor is the first one I've visited that was built as a hotel from the beginning. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the walls and doors are solid. No sound getting through those! The staff are friendly and helpful, and calling Guest Services for a pillow from the Pillow Menu results in a prompt response each time. We also had Afternoon Tea in the hotel, and it does not disappoint. A few things show the age of the hotel though - the shower in the bathroom is small and narrow, and our friends staying in another room reported poor water pressure. (Ours was fine) Our suite's windows faced out towards Bourke St, and the windows could do with modernising with double glazing - a lot of noise and music from The Imperial Hotel across the street would come through into our room. I found our stay comfortable, and the hotel lends a sense of elegance and occasion to the stay.
We had a wonderful experience at high tea. The professional service, delicate table wear and high quality food really made for a great dining experience. We were made to feel very special by Kevin and his team- he really went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable time as we celebrated an upcoming wedding. This was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Step back in time when glamour was in fashion. The Windsor is a charming hotel whose guests included, Vivien Leigh, Katherine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins and so many more stars in its hey day. Bedrooms and bathrooms a little tired now but location and history superb. Staff are lovely. Close to theatres and superb restaurants. If you prefer modern rooms tonstay in, this is not for you.
