•Melbourne Cellar Door is the favourite destination for wine and craft beer lovers to go to in Melbourne’s South Wharf precinct. Over 500 bottles of wine on offer and more than 60 wines by the glass (rotated frequently).
Mark Pendreich, co-owner & head sommelier handpicks the wines on offer and along with his brother Tony, established The Valley Cellar Door in Moonee Ponds in 2005 and both are very hands-on in running the two venues. All wines are sourced from small, independent, family-owned producers. Strong relationships built over time allow MCD to source museum releases, back vintages, and small parcel bottling.
Beer lovers are also well-catered for at MCD. As South Wharf’s only dedicated craft beer venue there are 8 rotating taps and over 130 craft beers in the fridge. Sour, Gose, Lager, Pilsner, Golden, Wheat, Pale Ale, IPA, Red, Amber, Brown, Porter, Stout, Imperial Stout are all represented!
Both an educational and experiential trip, your senses will be treated as you relax and indulge in our flight lounge whether it be with our wine flights or simply enjoying your favourite glass of wine with a platter of perfectly paired cheese and charcuterie boards.
The menu is light and designed for ‘sharing & grazing’, focused on artisan cheeses, funky cured meats, pizzas & pasta. Whether your sitting amongst the walls lined with wine or on the chesterfield lounges, a great time is sure to be had!
Who doesn't love melted cheese! Had the raclette supper which was very tasty, together with some 'extras' a wonderful sticky date pudding and a delicious flight of wines.
Serendipitous find while staying at the Sofitel in Melbourne. It’s only a short walk. Service was fantastic. The sommelier took his time explaining the wines in detail to us. The menu has a small selection of cheeses and charcuterie and suggested wines to pair with each food item. This menu is definitely designed for those visiting after work or in between meals and is excellent for wine tasting. I ordered the baked Camembert which came with a selection of lavosh and sourdough. The Chardonnay it was paired with complimented the cheese perfectly.
Hidden away @ 80 Collins Street is Hand Picked Wine Cellar.. we came for the Raclette which was very nice. Who doesn’t love melted cheese, draped over mushrooms and potatoes… complimented by charcuterie! Finished off with more cheese, quince paste, muscatels, and crackers.. There is so much more to the menu than this. Wines are amazing, I tried one of their many flights of wine… Will be back for more!!
Excellent wine tasting experience. This place has a broad range of wine from around the world under its own label and they do not disappoint. You can drink them by the glass just as in any other wine bar, or you can do flight or a structured mini-tasting. Either way the service is impeccable and friendly, catering to all levels of wine knowledge. I particularly enjoyed my tasting with Daniel, he did a great job of curating a special tasting to suit my particular interests. Thanks you!
Hidden away in a funky alleyway of the Paris end of Collins Street is this unique urban cellar door. Where else can you experience a wonderful array of different styles of wine as you would in a wine region… right in the middle of a city setting? Brilliant experience!
