About the venue
As a function venue, Melbourne Zoo stands alone. Seriously - are there many venues that can boast the things the Zoo holds in its grasp? First off, it’s a zoo. With real live animals. Secondly, as a function space, the Zoo can accommodate groups numbering between 10 and 3000. Thirdly, it’s a zoo. Aside from the obvious fact that Melbourne Zoo is a veritable wonderland of animals like lions and gorillas and bears and snakes, our city’s zoo also sports a number of function spaces for events that range from the end-of-year party time variety to the kid's birthday kind, or the breed of event more conducive to fostering business relationships with clients (in a unique setting). There’s the Lakeside Room, overlooking the zoo’s award-winning Japanese gardens. Then there’s the Leopard Lodge, located a lion’s roar from the big cats and fitting up to 500 guests. Then there’s the Bong Su Room with its own private tree kangaroo exhibit, found in the heart of the Elephant Trail. Also the Rainforest Room with its own tamarin monkey enclosure. Melbourne Zoo is (in case you live under a rock, and are in desperate need of a reconnection with your childhood) found along Elliott Avenue in Parkville. That’s just off Royal Parade, surprisingly close to Melbourne University, and a veritable stone’s throw (train ride) from the city and Citylink.

Definitely worth a visit. We went there multiple times and look forward to going back. The butterflies are magnificent with the very close encounters. They can even stand on you if your lucky. The koalas were surprisingly awake today and we enjoyed watching them chew on leaves. There were ducks roaming around which were very interesting to watch especially when they were crossing the road. Recommend!

The best part was the weather... elephants 🐘 ohh and gift shop cashier. He was so friendly, great smile and energy. As for the zoo, a few animals hiding and hard to spot, otherwise great selection. Loved leisurely strolling around. However it must have been school excursion day at the Zoo as there were many many kids and While I'm all for experiential learning, some of the kids were disorderly and clogged up the narrow walkways.

My daughter loves coming here. Always so much to do and see. Staff are very friendly and always helpful if you need. The zoo pass is such good value for money and would highly recommend for any family with young kids.

Very good experience at the zoo. Got to see so many different animals and enjoy the walkabout. The zoo has a good design and is easy to navigate with a lot of signs and information kiosks to check your location. The staff were very helpful and on hand to gove directions.

Bit underwhelming and not worth our money as most of the cooler animals weren’t even there, or doing nothing. Well stocked gift shop and really friendly staff. Though the selection and amount of animals were impressive. Overall quite a nice place to take the family if all the animals are there.
