Zoo
•As a function venue, Melbourne Zoo stands alone. Seriously - are there many venues that can boast the things the Zoo holds in its grasp? First off, it’s a zoo. With real live animals. Secondly, as a function space, the Zoo can accommodate groups numbering between 10 and 3000. Thirdly, it’s a zoo. Aside from the obvious fact that Melbourne Zoo is a veritable wonderland of animals like lions and gorillas and bears and snakes, our city’s zoo also sports a number of function spaces for events that range from the end-of-year party time variety to the kid's birthday kind, or the breed of event more conducive to fostering business relationships with clients (in a unique setting). There’s the Lakeside Room, overlooking the zoo’s award-winning Japanese gardens. Then there’s the Leopard Lodge, located a lion’s roar from the big cats and fitting up to 500 guests. Then there’s the Bong Su Room with its own private tree kangaroo exhibit, found in the heart of the Elephant Trail. Also the Rainforest Room with its own tamarin monkey enclosure. Melbourne Zoo is (in case you live under a rock, and are in desperate need of a reconnection with your childhood) found along Elliott Avenue in Parkville. That’s just off Royal Parade, surprisingly close to Melbourne University, and a veritable stone’s throw (train ride) from the city and Citylink.
At the heart of the Elephant Trail lies the Bong Su Room. With its indoor and outdoor spaces, floor to ceiling windows, bold dark timber panelling, private views over our animal exhibit, and hidden location among the bamboo forest, the Bon...

visited the Melbourne Zoo on a Friday and was genuinely impressed. It’s hands down one of the best zoos I’ve ever been to. The variety of animals is excellent, and what really stood out to me was the thoughtful, intelligent design of the enclosures. They allow you to get remarkably close to the animals — much closer than in many other zoos — without ever compromising the animals’ comfort or safety. While the ticket price is on the higher side, I found it absolutely worth it once I was inside. You can really tell that a lot of care and effort goes into making this place special — both for visitors and for the animals. Highly recommended!
First time at Melbourne Zoo. Must say, its very well maintained. Few things like a "Melbourne Zoo" symbol, picnic area for kids inside the Zoo and other little things has made it popular among kids and loved it. There are different areas like for reptiles, lion and for leimurs. Very impressive how leimurs have huge area to move around and they have been provided with food. Plenty of parking outside the Zoo, $2 for 5 hours, cheap and convenient for parents. Buy a Zoo membership instead of buying tickets and you can visit all other zoos and comes with multiple entries for one year.
Visited the zoo during winter. The cooler weather made walking around more comfortable, with fewer crowds and a calmer atmosphere. Some animals were less active or stayed indoors due to the temperature, but most enclosures still had good visibility and information displays. Tried the Lemur Experience—brief but informative. You get up close to the lemurs in their enclosure while the keeper explains their behaviour, diet, and conservation. No direct contact or feeding, but it was still a unique way to observe them in a more personal setting. A calm and pleasant visit overall, especially suited for a slower-paced winter activity.
Had an awesome day out at Melbourne zoo. Great place for the family! Managed to get round in 5 hours but even then we thought we moved fast. Would definitely recommend a two day visit if you want to read everything and enjoy it. Looking at getting the pass and also doing the camping under the stars! Will be back!
Had so much fun specially our little boy. A lot of animals and so thrilled to see healthy lions, tiger and snow leopard and even giraffe. Dif will come again❤️ Purchased our ticket online, and don’t worry about purchasing other features you’ll see all the animals😍❤️
