Zoo
•As a function venue, Melbourne Zoo stands alone. Seriously - are there many venues that can boast the things the Zoo holds in its grasp? First off, it’s a zoo. With real live animals. Secondly, as a function space, the Zoo can accommodate groups numbering between 10 and 3000. Thirdly, it’s a zoo. Aside from the obvious fact that Melbourne Zoo is a veritable wonderland of animals like lions and gorillas and bears and snakes, our city’s zoo also sports a number of function spaces for events that range from the end-of-year party time variety to the kid's birthday kind, or the breed of event more conducive to fostering business relationships with clients (in a unique setting). There’s the Lakeside Room, overlooking the zoo’s award-winning Japanese gardens. Then there’s the Leopard Lodge, located a lion’s roar from the big cats and fitting up to 500 guests. Then there’s the Bong Su Room with its own private tree kangaroo exhibit, found in the heart of the Elephant Trail. Also the Rainforest Room with its own tamarin monkey enclosure. Melbourne Zoo is (in case you live under a rock, and are in desperate need of a reconnection with your childhood) found along Elliott Avenue in Parkville. That’s just off Royal Parade, surprisingly close to Melbourne University, and a veritable stone’s throw (train ride) from the city and Citylink.
At the heart of the Elephant Trail lies the Bong Su Room. With its indoor and outdoor spaces, floor to ceiling windows, bold dark timber panelling, private views over our animal exhibit, and hidden location among the bamboo forest, the Bon...

This is my first visit to Melbourne Zoo, and it's surprisingly an awesome place for kids and families. The enclosures are beautifully and naturally arranged for all types of animals. I've seen some people complaining in reviews about not being able to see the animals in their enclosures during their visit. Come on, guys, they are animals. They have their own schedules and aren't like fashion models who show their faces whenever people are around. Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, especially my kid. We will definitely come back for sure. Please enjoy some of my pics. Thanks!
The Melbourne Zoo provided an exceptional day out for my son, his friends, and their educators. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was vibrant, welcoming, and geared toward both entertainment and education. The zoo's layout is thoughtfully designed, making it easy to navigate while ensuring every corner offers a new learning experience. The educators were particularly impressed by the interactive exhibits and the detailed information provided about each species. The zoo's commitment to conservation and its focus on endangered animals were not only eye-opening but also inspiring for the children. The wildlife presentations were engaging, breaking down complex ideas about animal behavior and ecosystems into kid-friendly insights. For the kids, the hands-on activities, such as feeding sessions and the opportunity to observe animals up close, were absolute highlights. The butterfly house, in particular, left everyone in awe with its beauty and tranquility. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to answer questions with enthusiasm. Overall, Melbourne Zoo strikes a perfect balance between education and fun. It’s a must-visit for families and school groups alike, offering a memorable experience that both entertains and informs. We left with smiles, new knowledge, and a greater appreciation for wildlife. Highly recommended!
If you do end up going to the zoo, make sure you avail the extra experiences offered by the zoo. It might seem a bit on the costlier side but it’s educational and not to mention you get to see the cute animals up close. Would recommend going to the zoo 7/10 for a day exploring
Definitely worth a visit. We went there multiple times and look forward to going back. The butterflies are magnificent with the very close encounters. They can even stand on you if your lucky. The koalas were surprisingly awake today and we enjoyed watching them chew on leaves. There were ducks roaming around which were very interesting to watch especially when they were crossing the road. Recommend!
Personally, this is the best zoo in Melbourne. The outdoor space is very spacious, with lots of trees and cool air. There are many grocery stores selling food and drinks in the zoo, so there is no need to go out to eat, which is very convenient. There are many interesting animals in the zoo, and the zoo staff are very attentive. I think this is a great place to go and experience on the weekend.
