Very basic as expected. (Rooms only serviced every other day is getting common) But when there was no water for several hours one afternoon- I was unable to use the toilet, have a shower before I went out, or even make a cup of tea, it was very disappointing. Not even a bottle of water offered by hotel staff. very disappointing all round from this hotel chain.
This hotel has almost zero on-street presence - it is easy to drive past. There is no lift from the underground car park to reception. The communal areas of the hotel are quite scruffy. The single lift is ancient. The rooms are not Mercure standard - they are run down and rickety, although seemed clean enough, with an odd layout (reminiscent of an early Ibis with bathrooms where the window should be). If it was a brand and a price point to match the quality it would be OK but it is absolutely not a Mercure. Accor's local brand management need to take a long hard loo at this place and see if it even fits within any Accor brand - 'Greet' maybe?
The worst stay I think I have ever had in a Accor hotel. 1st night, 2 family’s opposite room had a domestic violence incident, screaming and fighting in room and in corridors from 11pm till 5am. Police finally arrived at 5:30 to escort them from the hotel. Was threatened by one of the guests when I opened the door to my room. 2nd night screaming baby and television in the room next to mine went on all night and then painters outside window from 6am, walls are paper thing between rooms. Rooms only made up every second day, no prior notice of this. When they finally got round to it milk tea and coffee not replenished. Room keys had to be re-programmed each day at front desk as continuously failed. Bathrooms need a complete renovation, old. Please be careful not to trip on the old worn out carpet in the corridors, and suggest using the stairs, the lift is a frightening experience. Restaurant food was mediocre at best. Nasi goreng was just a dry fried rice. So called Wagyu burger was so dry as to almost be inedible. Unsure how this hotel maintains a 4 star rating, or the Mercure name, sadly it does not deserve either. Hotel manager was very apologetic and offered a free meal and some points but this was a small token compared to the inconvenience’s during the stay. As a frequent traveler this one is crossed off my list.
Fantastic Stay with Excellent Service! We had a good stay at Mercure North Melbourne! The room was clean and comfortable. A special shoutout to Peter, he was friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything we needed. His outstanding service truly made a difference.
Old, dated and smelly hotel and rooms. Royal Melbourne Hospital is within walking distance or only a short tram ride. Able to leave your car at the hotel until 12:00PM the next day if you pay for parking there. Can attend appointments the next morning without worrying about having to find more parking at the hospital.
