Stayed here overnight in Room 220. It's a very comfortable room with two double beds, desk, single chair, flat screen TV, several power points and USB ports, mini fridge, kettle, bathroom, shower, bath and toilet. The shower was okay but pretty average and needs to be updated. The water flow through the shower head wasn't very good. And there's no power to the exhaust fan. The elevator is very old and outdated but works perfectly fine. It could use upgrading/replacing though. We had dinner at the Polo Cafe located opposite reception. It's a very lovely space with candles and mood lighting. The prices of the meals were reasonable and not too expensive. Room service is also available as well as undercover car parking. Check in/check out was fairly easy and straight forward. Located very close to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Women's Hospital.
Don’t get your hopes up. It’s just a basic hotel. We paid $240 for one night and no where did it mention the $25 for parking when we were booking. It’s a run down building, nothing nice or fancy about it. Which is fine if you don’t need or want any of the extras. The shower was lacking pressure and dripped continuously. Not 4 stars, maybe 3.
Firstly, the staff at the reception desk and in the Polo Cafe were exceptional. Couldn't find fault with any of them. All were a credit to the hotel. We had dinner in the Polo Cafe and the food was delicious, the service great. Best Tempura fish and chips I've had for a long while. Parking was good. With the hotel close to hospitals and our medical appointments it was an easy choice. The rooms were a tad old. The LHS bedside light didn't work. For the price, I would have liked to see an extra lounge style chair in the room. What I did love was the lovely guest card welcoming us and acknowledging that we had an MRI and specialists' appointments. The gift of soap and little nibbles was also welcome which was just a tad extra that wasn't expected. Apart from the hotel being a tad tired. We loved the staff. Next year we've got another annual appointment at the RMH and we'll certainly chose the Mercure as our go to accommodation.
Rooms were clean, tidy with a comfortable bed. The whole motel is in need of a refurbish. Location is within walking distance to The Royal Melbourne & Royal Women's Hospital which is great. Parking onsite is great.
With a name of Mercure and 4 stars I was expecting luxury, but it is not so. I do not think this is worth 4 stars at all. The website states parking, but does not mention it is an extra $25 on top of the room, so that was a surprise when we got there. There was no TV remote and reception said to just use the buttons on the side, these are unable to get the Foxtel and cable channels as stated on the website so I can’t say if those channels worked or not, they were not available to us. There is no mini bar in the rooms as the website states, but there is room service, we did not use the room service. The buffet breakfast is not worth $25, the coffee is undrinkable, there were no tables available until someone else left, it’s only open until 9am, you are better off ordering room service, or going to find a cafe nearby. The girl looking after the buffet was absolutely lovely though. No fan in the bathroom, it gets quite stuffy. Curtains don’t close properly, so bright light awakens. The rooms are quite dated and could use a freshen up. However the beds were good, it is a good location, close to trams and hospitals. It was convenient for what we needed it for.
