3 Waterfront Place, Port Melbourne VIC 3207, Australia
Restaurant
•Well, definite points awarded for a to-the-point, upfront moniker. Mr Hobson is a nautically themed restaurant and bar, found right on the beach. The menu too is nautical. Just as nautical as the digs. Luckily for the denizens of Port Melbourne (and countless tourists with deeper pockets than backpackers), Mr Hobson isn’t nautical enough to warrant tacky pirate or dolphin or fishing paraphernalia; this restaurant is classy, upmarket, and sophisticated. The furnishings are stylish, befitting the Port Melbourne clientele. The outdoor seating allows you to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Port Melbourne. Mr Hobson’s sibling is 3 Station Pier if that gives any explanation. Mr Hobson provides function venues for events of all sizes, all of which boast sweeping views of the bay, and the sunsets that go with a position right on the waterfront. It’s especially popular with weddings, launches, business dinners, and anniversaries. Mr Hobson is found at the very end of the 109 tram line in Port Melbourne, on Waterfront Place. Basically, it’s at the beginning of the pier and right on the beach. Melbourne city is a short drive away, as are St Kilda and Albert Park. With great food, lovely ambience and amazing location, it's no wonder why Mr Hobson rated high among the other restaurants in the area.

My 86 year old mother and I made a special trip to Port Melbourne where she landed in the country over 60 years ago, we were going to have fish n chips for lunch but decided to dine where the sun was shining at Mr Hobsons. We walked in and aimed for a table outside...we were the only people there apart from 2 other diners, which was ok until you look around..the sun shades above are shredded and or non existent and the place inside was absolutely filthy...from walking through to seeing the floor absolutely filthy to broken down toilets or 5he ones worling just disgusting and the glass table tops for group gatherings horrendously cleaned or not as viewed when walked past them. This was not a little oversight of business as there was no business... just poor form. My chicken parmigiana Napoli sauce was nothing but tinned tomatoes ( I know this flavour because I grew up with them) perhaps a spinkling of Italian herbs would boost the situation! Whilst my mum enjoyed her wedges ( you can't go wrong with deep-fried potatoes)! The staff could make an effort to ensure their working environment reflects at least a minimal standard. If this is what we offer visitors on our doorstep....upon arrival or departure, I despair! Staff were very pleasant, and food arrived quickly, but considering we were only 1 of two groups there, I wouldn't expect to wait that long. I've worked on cruise ship destinations worldwide and I have never seen such filth in any place. The 2nd star goes to the staff pleasantries.
After a walk along Port Melbourne foreshore, Mr Hobson is a nice lunch stop. The view is amazing across the waterfront. A simple menu, prices are very reasonable for the pier location. Our dishes were good. Ordering from the counter with friendly staff, pleasant lunch.
2 adults for breakfast. 3 items on the menu we were interested in. 1. Eggs benedict florentine 2. Eggs benedict 3. Eggs royal. 1 and 2 came with muffins or sourdough and 3 came with nothing and it was most expensive. Had to pay extra to get muffins. Food was nice but eggs well under poached as the whites were still slimy and see through. Iced coffee nice. Would have considered visiting again until. I needed to use the bathroom. Only disabled toilet available. Inside door handle broken, no lid on cistern, broken tap on hand basin, hand dryer not working, revoltingly unclean see pics. Would possible recommend if you don’t need to use the bathroom.

Dropped by when cycling Greensborough / Brighton and chatted to owner when I was after a cold non fizzy refreshment. Great selection of a healthy smoothie as he suggested renovations will commence shortly to include a new health based menu Will call in again on my next return that way
