In 1936, The Prince was the city’s grandest splash of art deco decadence. In the 40’s the US military set up camp, establishing an officer’s club and pretending not to notice the area relaxing into Melbourne’s red light district – despite a red light topping our rooftop flagpole. In the 70’s it was Pokey’s Drag Show & Pennie’s Nightclub, early institutions of the city’s LGBTQIA scene. Sex appeal and progressive politics. That ringing in your ears is from when The Prince was ground zero of Melbourne’s punk scene in the 80’s. Blood, sweat and beers. Architect Alan Powell was in charge of the clean-up in the late 90’s, with a sharp refurbishment that honoured our art deco heritage. By then, Australians were beginning to suspect our food scene was world-class; restaurant Circa opened its doors at The Prince and proved us right.

And as for right here and now? Prince Bandroom soundcheck is live. Little Prince Wine bar is flowing. Prince Deck is buzzing, Prince Dining Room kitchen is hot, The Atrium is cool and in our 39 boutique Hotel rooms, the beds are ready to be unmade. Room was nicer than expected and priced reasonably. Whilst nothing special, room and premises were clean, check in was very easy, the receptionist who checked us in was lovely and pleasant. Easy access to our event. No complaints here.

This is a 5 star hotel with minor inconveniences that can easily be fixed but made it feel 4 star. Bad: - Old TCL tvs that are hard to work with (especially when casting) - WiFi is medieval, it's so slow - Standing shower doesn't have proper sealant around the door so it leaks into the bathroom if you shower too long Good: - Rooms ~ they're beautiful and comfortable, and despite the shower leaks, it is a nice shower - Air Conditioner had me shivering if set too low - Restaurant, bar, and band room are great - Location ~ right next to a train station for easy travel anywhere in the city, as well as great restaurants nearby - LOCATION ~ Dude it's right next to the beach and Luna Park Overall great, would book again.

Found myself in the area and stopped into the public bar for dinner on a recent work trip. The bar is tastefully renovated and offers a decent menu - there’s a fancier dining room if that’s your thing. My steak was cooked to perfection and the fries were hot and crispy. The beach and boardwalk of St Kilda are 5 minutes walk away or you can walk along Fitzroy St to take in some of the local atmosphere. Definitely recommended.

Loved our stay at the prince, check in staff were super friendly, location is amazing. The room was comfy and modern and even had 2 balconies! I could hear a bit of noise from the street in the middle of the night, however it was st kilda festival so was expecting it! Looking forward to staying at prince again and would recommend to anyone visiting St Kilda!

I came last nite for a concert so booked a table to have dinner , it was the worse meal I have ever had was over cooked slaw needed dressing and focaccia bread was stale and hard as a rock . Ordered 2 cocktails that we couldn’t drink didn’t even taste like the drink was like petrol took it back as tasted horrible our price for dinner was $129 and 2 drinks what a rip off so expensive for the worse pub meal never again. You need to up your game in the kitchen was a disgrace. Only good thing about our nite was seeing Singer Victor Ray he was fantastic.
