•In 1936, The Prince was the city’s grandest splash of art deco decadence. In the 40’s the US military set up camp, establishing an officer’s club and pretending not to notice the area relaxing into Melbourne’s red light district – despite a red light topping our rooftop flagpole. In the 70’s it was Pokey’s Drag Show & Pennie’s Nightclub, early institutions of the city’s LGBTQIA scene. Sex appeal and progressive politics. That ringing in your ears is from when The Prince was ground zero of Melbourne’s punk scene in the 80’s. Blood, sweat and beers. Architect Alan Powell was in charge of the clean-up in the late 90’s, with a sharp refurbishment that honoured our art deco heritage. By then, Australians were beginning to suspect our food scene was world-class; restaurant Circa opened its doors at The Prince and proved us right.

I visited The Prince Public Bar last weekend and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, and the staff were super friendly. I was served by an American guy who went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. Highly recommend this place for both tasty food and excellent service!
Just moved to St Kilda to start fresh at university, and the first night out I try to enjoy with friends is completely ruined. As I went to order a drink, some nasty woman—with awful eye makeup and a hideous yellow and black sweater—gave me the dirtiest look and the most revolting attitude for no reason. Absolutely disgraceful customer service. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, especially young people. What an absolute joke. Ruined my entire day!
Late at night and it's still ridiculously loud thanks to a party hosted by the hotel. Even noise canceling headphones aren't enough for this bs. At this price you'd expect a decent sleep but this noise would be bad even for a $30 hostel. When a hotel is failing this badly at the #1 purpose of a hotel, nothing else really matters. Second star is for the killer location. AC works. The room is a bit cramped but clean and cozy with a pleasant visual style. Maybe it isn't this awful every night but I'm not sticking around to find out.
I love this hotel. It’s just different. Not stiff or ostentatious. The rooms are so beautifully done. Gorgeous bathroom and soft furnishings. The best position, central to everything. Complimentary glass of wine. Cheap, secure parking. It just has a good vibe about it . I’ve stayed a few times now and will again.
I really can’t say anything nice about the hotel. Rooms definitely not as described. Small, mattress was so hard it had my body hurting the next day. Walls and carpet just worn down. Overall I had a 10 night stay turned into an immediate checkout
