Reviews for Midnight Hotel Canberra

We recently stayed at a hotel that left a generally positive impression. The location was fantastic—just about an 800-meter walk to the city center, which made it super convenient for exploring. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, always ready with a smile and eager to explain anything we needed to know. One standout feature was the free mini-bar in the room. Everything in it—the drinks and snacks—was complimentary, which is a rarity in Australian hotels and a really pleasant surprise. It definitely added a nice touch to the stay. The room itself was spotless and well-kept. If I had to point out any downside, it would be the parking situation. The underground parking area had a notably steep slope—around a 30-degree angle or so—meaning you’d need to have some confident driving skills to navigate in and out comfortably. Overall, it was a positive stay with just that minor challenge, and the complimentary amenities definitely made it memorable.

I have to say I am very surprised this is a five star hotel; it honestly makes me believe the star rating system is rigged or a joke? I would believe it was a four star hotel that was just a little tired and was due a freshen up. Speaking of stars, most of the reviews I leave are five stars, but every now and then something disappoints me enough to leave a lower review. This is one of those times. I stayed on level 7- maybe some other floors are nicer! The hotel lobby is lovely and smells beautiful. The staff were very polite and friendly. However, there are certain things I noticed from this point on that made me feel I was not in a five-star hotel. Upon arriving at my floor, I stepped out of the lift into an oppressively hot hallway; they do not air condition outside of the rooms. We were at the far end of the floor from the lift so carrying our luggage in the heat was not the end of the world but not pleasant. The paint in the hallway was noticeably scratched and chipped. The whole room smelled like drainpipes, and we had to run the shower to get rid of the smell. It was far smaller than it looked in the pictures, and contained one of the more disappointing hotel bathrooms I have seen. It just didn’t feel luxurious at all. However, the products were nice. The minibar was a highlight! So fun to know everything in it was free. Other people seem to indicate they had snacks in theirs; we didn’t. But having free drinks was still fun. We ordered a room service breakfast the morning that we left. It arrived in takeaway packaging with takeaway cutlery which was disappointing, but the coffees were good and the food good too. Unfortunately my food order was wrong but given that we didn’t have enough time for the kitchen to make it fresh and for me to eat it before check-out, I just ate what was brought to me. I did bring this up when we checked out in the hopes of not having that item charged the full amount but the woman serving us just apologised and seemed confused about why I was bringing it up. Perhaps their room service is not linked to the hotel? Contracted out, perhaps? The gym was not very useful- DBs going up to 20kg, two adjustable benches and a cable station. Other than this, just cardio machines. Can’t really train lower body at all. This is obviously only an issue for those who really value training while away from home. The best part of staying at Midnight Hotel was the location. Very central and very walkable!

Dear Ingrid, I want to sincerely thank you for the absolutely world-class service and hospitality you provided during my recent stay at Midnight Hotel in Canberra. From the moment I arrived until checkout, you made the entire experience welcoming, seamless, and truly felt like home. As Duty Manager, your professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail stood out in every interaction. You went above and beyond to ensure not just comfort, but a genuine connection—something that makes a stay memorable long after checkout. It’s clear you lead by example and set a standard of excellence for the entire team. This was easily one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had anywhere in the world. I’ll definitely be returning to Midnight Hotel not just for the incredible atmosphere, but because of leaders like you who make it so special. Please know that your efforts make a real impact and deserve recognition.

This hotel was an absolute joke. Stayed there for 2 nights, charged $1200 for their base level hotel room. Absolute scam. The room was beyond basic, 2 beds put together and advertised as a king room. Bathroom was basic, room was basic, all up a horrible experience and we will never return. To think about what is at offer for $600 a night in darling harbour as appose to Canberra is disgusting. Advise everyone against staying here

Stayed here for 4 nights while covering the India-Australia T20 game. Had a wonderful experience right from check-in to hospitality, the delicious breakfast at the restaurant to the overall service. Midnight's the theme so don't expect too many bright lights around but take nothing away from the bright faces of the caring staff around you. Special thanks to Nikki Magar for a super smooth check-in, advice on a lot of things to do in Canberra from local sight seeing to food and shopping as well ensuring the laundry always arrived in time for my work! What a superstar! I know where to stay the next time I'm in Canberra. Keep up the great work.
