Reviews for Mercure Newcastle

The ground floor is really lovely after being renovated. The rooms have been renovated to an extent such as walls being repainted and artwork of local sites decorating each room. However the bathrooms are old and dingy, needing renovation ASAP. The rooms have barely any power points. The addition of a microwave would go well. The daily parking fee is a bit steep. The rooms were comfy enough and the central location was handy. Probably would choose to stay elsewhere next time though.

Good location for what we needed. Ease of access. Clean and tidy. You can See it’s in the processes of renovating/tidying an older building so not perfect but freshly painted/appointed rooms with no odours- not even from the work that’s been done. Personal note and gift from the manager was an unexpected nice touch. Staff were inviting and helpful. Considering it was on the cheaper side I was very pleasantly surprised! I would recommend!

The hotel itself is okay at best. It’s definitely budget, no more. The rooms need work, plenty of she’ll be right jobs and power sockets hanging out of the walls. The “restaurant” should be a miss for guests. Most local cafes are better than this microwave breakfast meal. You want coffees? Either you get a watery automatic machine coffee or you pay a premium for coffee that never actually comes. I would recommend more staff during breakfast or peak times.

Has not improved since my last stay 12 months ago. AC broken and windows screwed shut Soap dispenser in the shower broken USB port for charging broken TV volume capped at a level slightly above traffic noise. $16 for parking Bathroom tiny and worse for wear However the room and bed were fine.

We had a one night stay at Mercure, Newcastle (city centre). The hotel is in excellent proximity to shops and food outlets, which is fantastic. A short walk to the light rail is also a bonus. The reception staff are friendly. Thank you to the bar worker who is working exceptionally hard to manage the whole bar/restaurant Unfortunately, this place is not worth the $250 per night we paid due to the run down accomodation: -The sheets had stains over them. The bed was comfy though. However the bed is two singles put together. -The bath/shower had hair in it that hadn’t been cleaned -There was tea and coffee sachets, as well as a coffee machine which is great. However, there was an open 2L milk bottle in the fridge that was almost empty. I have never been to a hotel where the milk was open… sealed milk would be best due to health and safety. -There is a musty/smoky smell in the corridors -The windows opened but it was a struggle to get them closed -Bathrooms are very outdated. It appears the carpet is newish and updated air con. -Can clearly hear what next door was doing and doors opening/closing I understand it is a beach town and accomodation and price will reflect location, however, I do think this is too expensive for what we received. Thank you.
