There's quite some problems in this hotel. The air conditioner dropped dust when opened, the hotel room’s quite small, the hotel’s quite old and the walls are not really blocking noises from next door. The breakfast needed to pay extra but decent. Limited parking spots also needed to pay extra. The good thing is in the centre of the city. Definitely not enough to be a 4-star hotel. A well-deserved 3 star. Not too bad, not too good.
Staff were helpful, and breakfast lovely. Beds well made, bathroom was not as clean as expected. And really the two biggest things that made me leave this review was the traffic noise, all night, and the yobo's using the road as a drag racing space, I ended up laughing a lot saying out loud 'don't stay here if you want to sleep'. But it was close to everything which was great, and good value with breakfast and cheap easy parking.
room smelt extremely stale windows were broken unable to open in one room air conditioner extremely loud in both rooms were not advised of construction outside our window globes blown in one room still not fixed when we left at check-in we were not advised of the accommodation package - we paid for items ourselves or travelled to petrol station for drinks and snacks. Dinner on Monday night was not able to be eaten - garlic bread was two pieces toast with garlic sprinkled on top, my husbands meal was served - 1 hour later the other meals appeared which were disgusting by the chef who was filthy wearing slides and socks not WHS standard, (there was 5 in the restaurant) the wall next to wear we sat had food up it. When checking out i was charged twice for one room I was told I would have to chase up the bank, our receipts were charged for the Mercure at the Williamtown Airport, not King Street. Staff were extremely unprofessional and rude the serving staff for breakfast and dinner needed a good bath their uniforms at least ironed. For what we were charged and the state of the Mercure was so disappointing we travelling a long way to stay for a much needed break and to look at the potential of having our company annual conference at the Mercure this will now not be happening.
I had read good reviews about the breakfast, but we didn't eat there. So, that would be the most positive comment. I now understand that the hotel is in a phase of refurbishment... BUT The driveway reminded me of the worst roads I have driven on. Service is being palmed off to a 'supermarket' style check-in. Our rm119 was 'not quite ' completed? We moved the bedside cupboard to discover the electricity outlet. We were missing the second bedside unit? The 'all abilities' (AA) bathroom gets really wet. The AA seat will not stay up? The soap holder blocks the hot water tap? Late at night cigarette smoke came up from the back of the restaurant and woke us up, and excited the smoke alarm. Look carefully at the costs as paid parking info. is hidden behind small print. On a positive note it's close to everything.
The hotel is located on a busy intersection with double glazing windows (which I might add do not stop the noise) especially when they are broken, noise existed every night from a nightclub till 3am, drunks, McDonalds and traffic noise with hoons. We were there for 4 nights, our room was not made up consecutively for 3 of the nights - we had to ask after being out all day. I had to ask for clean towels also. Very dissappointing not being able to sleep with the ongoing noise.
