I had read good reviews about the breakfast, but we didn't eat there. So, that would be the most positive comment. I now understand that the hotel is in a phase of refurbishment... BUT The driveway reminded me of the worst roads I have driven on. Service is being palmed off to a 'supermarket' style check-in. Our rm119 was 'not quite ' completed? We moved the bedside cupboard to discover the electricity outlet. We were missing the second bedside unit? The 'all abilities' (AA) bathroom gets really wet. The AA seat will not stay up? The soap holder blocks the hot water tap? Late at night cigarette smoke came up from the back of the restaurant and woke us up, and excited the smoke alarm. Look carefully at the costs as paid parking info. is hidden behind small print. On a positive note it's close to everything.
My children and I enjoyed our overnight stay at Mercure Newcastle. We arrived at 5pm and were completely exhausted, there was a mix-up with our booking since I had made reservations for the hotel room the day prior via phone call, but the receptionist was extremely professional, and kind and she fixed up our reservations. The breakfast buffet was really nice, and my children and I really enjoyed the experience overall. Would highly recommend!
Short Stay Visit to Newcastle. Am an ALL member so familiar with the Mecure Brand. Service was OK in that after waiting at reception for a small while I was then instructed to go to a kiosk and then type in my details anyway. Dont see the point of waiting for reception if you are going to ask me to fill in my details on a machine. I could have done that myself if there was clear direction. The room was OK, its a large room, but bathroom facilities were quite cramped compared to the room size. Parking was good, but an extra dollar amount and wasnt undercover. Coming back to the hotel, several people were loitering outside asking to come in, and didnt have accomodation. There was no security visible moving these people on. Checkout was a staff member having a lengthy chat to another customer about the weather and holidays, so I left my card on the reception and left, no express checkout service was visible at the time. Ive used Accor for many different business and family trips across Asia and Europe, unfortunately this stay wasnt up to my usual experience.
Highlight of the stay was the breakfast, it was good quality and fresh. Staff are friendly and the room was OK however the bathroom was very dated and discoloured which made it feel dirty. The hallway smelled of cigarette smoke on the 5th floor where I stayed. The room was part of a group booking for a work trip and it did not feel adequate, nor the quality what I would expect of a Mercure hotel.
Clean spacious rooms in a convenient location. Doesnt look much from the outside, but we were pleasantly surprised by internal decor and layout , Noise from next door was a bit loud. Breakfast buffet was lovely and well priced
