Reviews for Sofitel Sydney Wentworth

The recent renovations are very tasteful with a nod to the interesting history of the hotel - we enjoyed the Club Sofitel experience with delicious food options and impeccable service from staff, and our room on the 17th floor was quiet and bed very comfortable. Decided to have breakfast in the main dining room rather than the lounge due to more gluten-free options and the buffet was extensive and enjoyable. There was an issue before arrival with the online account not reflecting the correct amount owing but this was quickly sorted out in person on arrival. Every single staff member we spoke to was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is just metres from the Martin place Metro and there are the beautiful botanic gardens nearby to explore. On weekends the smaller Virgin gym just next door is closed, but guests have access to the main one on Pitt St 600m away and it is an amazing facility with indoor pool and spa and every piece of exercise equipment you could wish for. Our stay was topped off by a plate of beautiful petit fours and wine as an anniversary gift. Merci, Sofitel Wentworth

Nice hotel - tiny rooms. Bathroom is like a cupboard. Bed comfy, nice amenities. Check in took forever - wouldn't let me do it via the computer so had to wait for a person and a long queue. Fairly good value for money for Sydney.

It feels like they have only renovated parts of the hotel and rooms as part of their recent renovation (the hotel room bathrooms are not newly renovated). Also I was disappointed in the poor customer service experienced during the stay, and food were not to the Sofitel standards. There are opportunities to invest in training in the staff, particularly the assistant duty manager, where they had taken no accountability for the poor service experienced. There are other better hotel options around the area. The only positive is that it is located on the quiet side of Sydney CBD and walking distance to circular quay and shopping area.

We decided to stay at the Sofitel Wentworth to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had stayed there several times before, before the recent major refurbishment and we thought that we like to experience the upgrades. The entrance now has a door that opens outwards which almost hit me in the face. Sliding doors would be more appropriate. The foyer towards the back was very dark and has many mirrors, including the lift doors which made it look like a mirror maze. It was difficult to determine what was real and what was a reflection. Our room was small compared to our other visits and we were disappointed with the bi-fold bathroom doors which covered the light switch when the doors were open. This was poor design and cheap in our opinion. Also, only a minor point, but there were no tissues in the room and the full-length mirror was located at the wrong end of the room. It should have been located near the bathroom, but I guess that space was a problem. We loved the changes made on level 5 with the Wentworth Bar and Delta Rue in which we enjoyed a scrumptious full buffet breakfast. We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed on the Monday night that we stayed so we went to the Pullman at the Quay to celebrate my wife’s birthday, instead. The staff were all friendly and obliging and always willing to help. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, even with the minor problems and we will be back.

Unfortunately, this is a five star hotel that doesn’t feel like one. There is a self service check in and a very average looking lobby. The hotel has apparently been renovated but it did not show from the room. The wardrobe did not open fully because of a bench seat directly in its path. There was an extremely narrow door leading into a tired looking bathroom. And, the room was dark and a very odd shape, thanks to the horseshoe configuration of the building. The breakfast buffet was very, very average and the service was good at best. For the price point, this is not a great choice if you want a proper five star hotel.
