Reviews for InterContinental Sydney Double Bay

Overpriced and overrated. Needed a refit 20 years ago. The pool bar is a sad reflection of the place as it appears to have been left to fall apart. Cost for ocean view room is not worth it given it's only an ocean glimpse. Suggest getting top floor or don't bother. I don't understand the high ratings and I also note not many other options in the area. Value point just not there.

We held a wedding ceremony and high tea reception at the hotel courtyard. The events manager has been very helpful and responsive right from the beginning when we did our enquiry and site visit. We had many questions and requests, and the events manager tried her best to accommodate everything to make our wedding day extra special and smooth. She also communicated directly with our vendors regarding the wedding day's arrangements to save us time from going back and forth between the vendors and the hotel. On the actual wedding day, the banquet team did a great job ensuring everything ran smoothly. The canapes and high tea food items were also superb, our guests were really impressed and said they would be going back to the hotel again for their high tea.

As a Sydneysider living in Melbourne now for the last 3 years First time stay at the Intercontinental DB in my life The bad first The room although upgraded to the 5th floor with harbour views was a little tired The bathrooms look grand with Marble but the old girl showing her age for this calibre of hotel Carpets in the hall are showing a bit of age too On walking into the premises My personal experience was the concierge seemed hectic and person at the drive in area when I first walked in wasn’t fantastically welcoming The GOOD ! The view was beautiful from my upgraded Harbourside room and there was no noise from the construction site close by which was lucky A very quiet night sleep The staff get an A++ . People I came across from Lisa the room director , the hospitality staff working in the Club room and breakfast Bar and reception staff were all excellent Always had a welcoming smile and always were happy to say hello and help you Well done !(very unlike Double Bay itself from growing up in Sydney city) thank you to the fantastically friendly ladies I saw working around the hotel and the lovely food in the afternoon/evening and breakfast Fantastic location if you have an itinerary for the Double Bay Area (review written 05.09.24)

Let me start by saying I would never set foot in this establishment ever again. On a lovely Saturday afternoon we stopped into the Intercontinental as it looked like a classy place for a cocktail. The staff told us the rooftop bar is the place to be. Upon arriving on the rooftop it certainly has a good view however zero staff and no operational bar. The tables have the QR code for ordering and they wouldn’t work - coming up with an error every attempt. After 15 minutes of trying we left. We headed downstairs to level 1 where ‘The Bar’ is located. ‘Classic Cocktails’ was spruiked as part of its offering. With that in mind we grab a table and when the waiter comes we order one of the classics being a Grey Goose Vodka Martini made extra dry with olive. Upon his return two cocktails are delivered with liquid that looked like it was sourced from a stormwater drain in the car park. A greenish colour with so much vermouth and possibly olive brine in,. It was horrendous. My husband called the bar tender over and said 'we can’t drink this, it isn’t a dry martini it’s disgusting. The dry martini should have next to no vermouth in and be clear liquid'. The bartender then advised we were wrong and that a dry martini means more vermouth and extra dry meant way more. He then went on to say we should have ordered a ‘wet’ martini as this is the type that has very little vermouth. We disagreed as we’ve been drinking this same martini all over the world for decades and simply Googled it just to make sure every bar we’ve ever visited hasn’t been Martini gaslighting us and that somehow the geniuses at The Bar knew something nobody else did. Google confirmed they were wrong yet they refused to look it up. So then enters a manager looking type who continues the argument accusing us of being wrong and parroting the wet martini narrative. Upon advising them we wouldn’t be paying they had the audacity to insist we would have to pay and in a goodwill gesture they give a 15% discount. Not wanting to ruin the atmosphere for the rest of the guests we begrudgingly donated $30.00 for them to empty that garbage down the drain and us to leave. Our $30.00 is buying this review. We have never experienced such outrageously bad hospitality and would urge anyone thinking of spending their money in Double Bay, don’t do it here.

Unbelievable stay! Staff were all amazing, rooms are great! I’ve stayed at a lot of IC and this is now one of my favourites. Cannot say enough how warm and welcoming all the staff were. Lounge is great as well!
