Good location, but the hotel clearly needs maintenance and better cleaning routines as common areas seem not to have been cleaned for a while. Most elevators were out of service and at one time all. The ones that was running felt in need of maintenance. Is this in accordance with Australian and Melbourne regulations?

The location on Collins street is excellent. The room was clean but the floor was oddly uneven all through the room. The amenities in the room were very sparce and the daily cleaners did not replace items running low such as hand soap and tissues. The lift was out on one of the days so I needed to take the stairs from the 8th floor so that I wouldn't be late for my conference. I wouldn't stay there again even though the location is great. There are much better options in Melbourne CBD.

We recently stayed at Novotel on Collins and had a very mixed experience. On the positive side, the concierge team was excellent – friendly, welcoming, and easily the best part of our stay. Check-out staff were also great. The hotel itself was clean, housekeeping did a lovely job, and the location is central, close to everything. Breakfast was delicious with one of the best offerings we’ve seen, and we appreciated being upgraded to valet parking for free after asking. Unfortunately, check-in was a real letdown. Despite a 2pm check-in time, we weren’t able to access our room and sent away. We had booked two interconnecting rooms, when we got there and told it might not be ready until 5pm! Ther other people in our group managed to check into one side of room that was ready 15 minutes later and given our keys for the room that wasn't ready get, which was far from ideal. The second room eventually became ready at 3:30pm but the interconnecting door was locked. Staff on the phone were rude when we requested the interconnected door to be opened. As compensation we were offered “free” drinks, but these turned out to be the same complimentary welcome drinks already included in our package. The bar and food service were overwhelmed – told 30 minutes for a coffee and 45 minutes for food. Rooms themselves are dated and showing wear (torn carpet, missing lights, mismatched furniture, no USB outlets). The pool area has been updated but mould is still visible along the grout. With multiple lifts out of service, waiting for the only working lift was frustrating. Add to this the ongoing construction outside, and it really didn’t feel like value for money. Overall, while the staff at check-out and concierge were a highlight, the rest of the experience was disappointing and overpriced compared to what was delivered.

The hotel definitely needs some cleaning and maintenance. Had a wet and damp smell in most of the carpeted areas and in the room as well. Lift services were unimaginably slow. Maintenance is understandable but not the level of service that was there. Have stayed here a few years ago, but not looking forward to anymore. While service is low like this, that should be compensated by lower rates or compensations.

There was only one working lift and it was very slow. During peak times there was a queue to get up to the hotel. We check with 2 different people at the front desk and then the concierge downstairs if they could have our bags brought down for us (due to a quick transfer to the airport and broken lifts). Three different staff reassured us that they could do this and they didn’t. When we went up to pick up our bags, a new employee was on the desk and didn’t even apologise, just said ‘nobody told me’.
