As a 5 star hotel, I was expecting a more grand entrance to the reception desk, instead we had to take the only lift (the other one’s out of order)up to level 3 to reach check-in counters. There was some sort of renovation/construction going on within the building, therefore not much of a view and can be a bit noisy too. The corridor was spacious but the room doors were giving out of date vibes. We stayed in the twin double beds rooms, which were relatively clean and spacious, simply equipped with the basics. Noise insulation was not the best, might be an issue for light sleepers. Our booking includes buffet breakfast which did not disappoint, wished I had bigger appetite.
The hotel is very conveniently located, right in the city area. Moving around was easy. The restaurant serves good food and the staff were attentive and helpful. It serves a great breakfast with fresh juices. Rooms was spacious, a little basic and in need of some refurbishment. Some lights were not working and the air conditioning was down for 2 days while I was there, it was really uncomfortable. After multiple requests, they switched me to a room where the aircon was working a little better but the curtains were broken and we had to use clips to fix it - this was repaired the next day. Overall, it was a good location to be at, I enjoyed the breakfast and food there and generally, the staff were helpful. However the rooms really need refurbishment and updating!
Situated around the corner from the Block Arcade, the hotel is very central. I had the queen room, which was quite spacious and always clean with facilities in good working order. On my first night, I ordered room service dinner and was told it would arrive in half an hour to 45 minutes. After an hour and 10 minutes, I called room service, who seemed to not recall my order. They immediately sent it up, and I received it 20 minutes later. However, I should have gone out and eaten as the meal was overpriced for what was presented. I ordered the king prawn linguine, which had a lot of linguine and 4 prawns. That's for next time. I also ordered breakfast in bed, which arrived promptly and hot. Hollandaise eggs with smoked ham and hash browns. Quite heavy on the ham but good overall. Coffee was very weak. There are many great places to have breakfast within a 3 - to 5-minute walk from the hotel.
Great location, close to the train station and many good restaurants. The room is a little old and there is damaged carpet in my room. But it does its job. Shower water is restricted as in the flow of water is low, can't compare to those rain drop shower. Friendly staff, understand your needs and are willing to help.
To All management, Our family was staying 3 nights between 07/04 to 10/04 in family suite #1326. As ALL gold member, this was the worst experience we have had so far. Below is what I would like to review on: - Reception: really unwelcoming, Lee was our receptionist, without a greeting, she was asking for details to check-in. I think she thought that I was not supposed to be in the ALL priority check-in queue. There is no mention of the current broken lift, no heated pool/spas. We realize the heating of the pool/spas only until we took our kids to swimming. - Facilities: broken lift for 2 days, broken heating system without announcement in advance, bathroom door in #1326 is not working. - Services: good support from parking team and restaurant waiter/waitress. Since, the lift was not working, we have to take 6 flight stair to get to and from the ground. The parking team has been offering help with luggage. Waiter and waitress at restaurant are nice and helpful. - Lee was getting us check-out and again, cold, unwelcoming attitudes: I have been staying in so many different Novotel across different states, at the minimum, receptionist staff would be asking how is my stay or at least, saying, seeing you back soon with a smile, as a gesture. With Lee, all I got was, "all done"
