Reviews for Novotel Melbourne on Collins

The hotel is very conveniently located, right in the city area. Moving around was easy. The restaurant serves good food and the staff were attentive and helpful. It serves a great breakfast with fresh juices. Rooms was spacious, a little basic and in need of some refurbishment. Some lights were not working and the air conditioning was down for 2 days while I was there, it was really uncomfortable. After multiple requests, they switched me to a room where the aircon was working a little better but the curtains were broken and we had to use clips to fix it - this was repaired the next day. Overall, it was a good location to be at, I enjoyed the breakfast and food there and generally, the staff were helpful. However the rooms really need refurbishment and updating!

Situated around the corner from the Block Arcade, the hotel is very central. I had the queen room, which was quite spacious and always clean with facilities in good working order. On my first night, I ordered room service dinner and was told it would arrive in half an hour to 45 minutes. After an hour and 10 minutes, I called room service, who seemed to not recall my order. They immediately sent it up, and I received it 20 minutes later. However, I should have gone out and eaten as the meal was overpriced for what was presented. I ordered the king prawn linguine, which had a lot of linguine and 4 prawns. That's for next time. I also ordered breakfast in bed, which arrived promptly and hot. Hollandaise eggs with smoked ham and hash browns. Quite heavy on the ham but good overall. Coffee was very weak. There are many great places to have breakfast within a 3 - to 5-minute walk from the hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at Novotel Melbourne on Collins last weekend. The service was great from the start. Stefani at the front desk welcomed us warmly. We arrived early, and since our room wasn’t ready, we went out for a while. Stefani called us as soon as it was ready, which made check-in very easy. The hotel is in a great location, with lots of food places nearby. Breakfast was tasty with a good variety. The indoor swimming pool was a big hit with the kids—they had an amazing time! The room was clean and comfortable, and I would have given it a 5 if the TV had been a smart TV. Since it wasn’t, we had to rely on regular channels instead of streaming our own shows. Overall, it was a smooth and enjoyable stay. Friendly staff, a great location, and fun for the family. We would love to come back!

Hotel is convenient albeit showing its age. Lift to reception was not working, forcing people to wait on the street for extended period (lobby is on the 2nd floor - not ground level). Hair dryer was missing in my room, and rooms generally looking tired. Lots of building and drilling occurring early morning affected sleep. Service was good, however I feel the place in priced too high, simply due to convenience/proximity. Much better hotel options close by.

It is a nice hotel and nicely located, hence a positive rating. Three items could have been better, resulting in a higher score. These are mentioned below. The three items that were negatives in the context of this stay were: 1) Like many open center hotels, the guest floors are a bit of a maze, and more frequent signs pointing the shortest direction to the elevators would be welcome. 2) Entrance to the hotel lobby is via two elevators from the Collins Street level. Entrance to the guest floors is via three elevators from the lobby. Previously, there was an exit from the lobby to the shopping area next door. As the shopping area is being redeveloped, this was not available. For the duration of our stay, one of the elevators from the ground floor to the lobby and two of the elevators from the lobby to the guest floors were not in service, resulting in some extensive waits. 3) After the first nite of our stay, the milk for morning coffee was not replaced in the refrigerator. I first called the customer service department in the hotel. I second told one of the people servicing rooms. I third stopped by the front desk and told them. Although each of these interactions resulted in promises to resolve the matter, none were followed through. I finally went to the front desk a second time to complain, and the desk agent walked two steps and got me several boxes of milk and instant coffee. This could have been handled more smoothly.
