Shaw Davey Slum takes a corner pub spot fixture in Carlton and transforms it into a colourful, mischievous homage to the swinging 60s, celebrating Australian culture. The venue's name is based on a poverty report written in 1958 by&nbsp;two commissioners&nbsp;named Shaw and Davey about Carlton and the surrounding areas.
A sprawling bar, the Shaw Davey Slum wholeheartedly embraces weekend fun, good food, good drinking, and the good times synonymous with the 60s pop culture. In other words, it&rsquo;s a stellar venue for a function or celebration. Downstairs in the main bar and dining room, the Shaw Davey Slum serves up good pub fare and specials throughout the week (especially attractive no doubt, to the University of Melbourne crowd). The walls are brightly coloured and cheery, all paisley and flowers and purple lights. Upstairs one finds a rooftop space, with a retractable cover above to ensure Melbourne&rsquo;s unreliable weather never dampens a party mood. The upstairs space also doubles as a private function space - think end-of-year parties, end-of-semester celebrations, and milestone birthdays. With a large wrap-around bar servicing the entire upstairs, The Slum's upstairs function spaces feature a retractable roof, large projector screen, flexible seating layout, dance floor and washrooms. The downstairs restaurant can be hired out for lunches and dinners and organisers can have the choice of ordering off our A La Carte Menu, beer tap menu, Set Menu or from one of our canape packages. The full-service dining room focused on unique Australiana flavours, styled with traditional Australian bush spices.&nbsp;

For those not in the know when it comes to geometric patterns, a "chevron" is a v-shaped line or stripe. You'll immediately be able to recognize a few here, given the ceiling of the Chevron Lounge is covered in them. 

As with the rest of the spaces, the Chevron Lounge is intricately decorated, with a patterned ceiling complementing exposed brick walls and Union Jack seats. As one might expect, this one's good for casual drinks with friends, uni get-togethers, meet-ups and after-work drinks.

The Main Dining Room is a striking space for enjoying a casual yet impressive sit-down meal. An intricately detailed ceiling with lights descending from pipes, a wall of 60s flower print, another wall of purple light - it's an area that makes an impression. 

Meanwhile, the food available deftly walks the line between well-loved pub grub and modern gourmet fare. There's a British bent to the goings-on, albeit one that's decidedly un-boring.

Main Dining Room

The Pineapple Lounge and DJ Area are a combination of two smaller spaces that equate to a cheery, fun-loving (also stylish) area for groups of up to 50 pals looking to celebrate. 

While unavailable on Fridays, every other night groups are able to enjoy a casual, laid back space complete with bright yellow pineapple emblazoned walls that speak of a definite 60s sense of mischief. In short, we'd recommend this space for birthday drinks, or getting friends together at the end of the week.

The Campbells Soup can - an iconic image of 60s pop-art, and a striking image to have above you while you're enjoying the laid back and vibrant surrounds of the upstairs bar. The Campbells Soup Area is located in one end of the upstairs space, a cluster of space for up to 50 people seated for snacks, jugs, and some banter - or 80 standing and mingling, cocktail-style.

The Upstairs Bar perched above the main bar and the dining room, this is where you'll be heading for some casual drinks, albeit as many notches above truly casual as it takes to warrant getting your own space together. 

For up to 300 guests. The Upstairs Bar is all tropical print, 60s vibes, a well-stocked bar, and a retractable roof. In other words, this is a good one.

Upstairs Bar

As one might expect, this refers to the entire upstairs space of the venue and used exclusively by larger groups of up to 400 guests. 

In other words, you've got your own private bar, complete with lounge area, kitschy-cool wallpaper, and 60s vibes, as well as a retractable roof for when the sunshine's out. In additional other words, this space is good for the corporate end of year celebrations, university events, launch parties, and milestone birthdays.
