I recently stayed at Rydges Canberra and had a great experience overall. The location is perfect, making it easy to explore the city. The service was excellent—staff were attentive and helpful throughout my stay. While the rooms are a bit outdated, they were very clean and well-maintained. I also appreciated the complimentary room upgrade, which added a nice touch to the visit. All in all, a pleasant stay and good value for the location!
I recently stayed at Rydges Canberra. I have to admit I was worried about my stay after reading reviews. The rooms were lovely. Bed comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. The shower does leak because slant needs to be redone back to drain but front desk told me that’s being fixed. It’s in a great location. Only downside was cost of meals overrated. A beer was $17.50 which was ridiculous. Would I stay here again. Yes I would.
I don't usually write reviews but I will today. I stayed at this motel as my conference was being held here. I enjoyed my stay however I have to say that the negative reviews are pretty spot on. The good: very comfortable bed with sparkling white clean sheets. The catering for the conference was very good also. The bad: very crowded, small room for conference with 0.5 m between all the tables in front and behind. The hallways were dark, the furnishings dated, thread bare in places, fabric on restaurant chairs all stained terribly. Pink mould on bathroom tiles, rooms not cleaned well. Paint chipped everywhere. However, it is a good location. I got the impression that the staff try hard. I think the problem is that the motel is old, huge and difficult and expensive to maintain. Avoid the breakfast buffet.
I've been a returning customer of Rydges hotel for a while now. Overall a decent place to stay, relax and unwind without breaking the bank as it is reasonably priced (if you happen to get a good deal). Positives: Good customer service throughout ie reception, bar, housekeeping- all their staff seem well trained and respectful. Negatives: House keeping service could be better, room toilets don't flush very well, the gym machines are old and worn out, a few of them will be out of order almost all the time. The breakfast has a limited variety of choices, most pastries are dry and not always fresh, they would normally serve similar items for breakfast with very subtle and occassional alterations like substitution of waffles with crepes which can be monotonous and off-putting if you're staying for long periods like a week or so.
As per all previous reviews the hotel is as a thorough disappointment. Run down, aged and dirty. Good points, the pillows. Stay elsewhere in Canberra there's many better hotels for the same price if not less. Unfortunately this hotel is under poor management and the quality and guest satisfaction shows.
