The location is the only good part of Amora Hotel Sydney, as it’s close to the city center and convenient for getting around. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. The reception staff is inconsistent—some are kind and friendly, while others are outright rude. It feels like there’s no standard training for the team. The lift is outdated and problematic. It closes on people, has an unpleasant smell, and the card sensor often doesn’t work properly, requiring multiple attempts to register your floor. The room was okay, but the toilet wasn’t as clean as I’d expect from a hotel claiming to be five stars. On top of that, this is the first time I’ve seen a so-called 5-star hotel charge money for bottled water, which is shocking. Overall, I’d rate this as a 3-star experience at best. I’m honestly unsure how this hotel attained a 5-star rating.
This was our first time staying at the Amora and we loved it. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful 3 day stay before departing o our cruise. It's just a short walk to George Street and from there Sydney is yours to explore... So do yourself a favour
Room service needs improvement: 1) I placed an order an hour in advance, but it arrived 20 minutes late, and I had to follow up for updates. 2) The website advertises breakfast room service starting at 6am, but when I called at 6am to order Bircher muesli and coffee, I was informed it would take 45 minutes – quite misleading. On a positive note, check-in and check-out were seamless and efficient.
We received a separate, random charge for use of the minibar, which we didn’t use. We had purchased a bottle of wine from the Ivy instead. Despite calling several times, we received no answer or explanation for why this charge was added when nothing was taken from the minibar. The overall service was disappointingly poor. Additionally, the bathroom was outdated and had an unpleasant smell. For the price, I’d recommend avoiding this place and choosing somewhere better.
Very classy foyer and building. Great service and friendly staff. I didn't pay for the room so can't comment on the price but if I can afford to stay here again I surely will. Room was a standard size (nothing special). Great comfortable bed and bathroom. Standard city views. I love the total blackout blinds and curtains. Gym was too small to be of any use. Pool looked nice but I don't like swimming.
