PROS Lovely, friendly & competent staff. Great meals in the Bistro. Comfortable beds and quiet rooms which make for a great nights sleep. Great value for money. CONS Being an old historic building it really does need major renovations, so you will notice lots of little things that catch your eye that clearly need attention.

We enjoyed our stay. The hotel feels a little tired and in need of renovating but the room was comfortable and clean. We found the king bed, while comfortable, had a noticeable dip in the middle (due to the mattress being on two bed bases put together). Check in experience wasn't awesome with the reception area being over-perfumed by some air freshener. Friendly staff. Clean bedding and towels. Great location - I recommend a walk up Mount Ainsley. Very scenic.

Where do I start. Mercure should be embarrassed to have their brand associated with this hotel. From checkin, slow with an inexperienced staff member (not supported by an experienced staff member- just standing and watching) to eating in the adjoining hotel that smelt of poo…. One of my kids could not eat….I then chose to purchase a bottle of wine from the “bottleshop” …. No prices, no help and food (for the restaurant- I presume) in the walk-in beer fridge. I purchased wine. Then get to room and the only glasses were tiny sample glasses…. Promo wine tasting glasses… had to walk back to the bar…. Room dirty, bathroom dirty. Kids had a bath. Plug mechanism did not work.. no more showers…. Tried to ring reception…. No phone number of how to call reception???? Trip to reception again. Returned back to hotel at 5.45 pm to find someone had just entered our room for cleaning. Had to request they leave as we were requiring a quick change. Very very poor

Enjoyed our stay again in a fantastic location. Apart from the facilities needing some love and care, we enjoyed the spacious room, comfy King Size bed and lovely breakfast. Very good value for this location. Would return.
