We were disappointed. We booked the Studio Queen Suite, which looked quite swish online, thinking we would have a rather special night. Firstly, the reception staff's attitude was perfunctory rather than welcoming or helpful. They said they'd call if we could move into our room a little earlier and didn't call, despite it being clear to us later that very few of the rooms were being used. When, the next day, we asked for something to wash our dishes with, nothing came of it. Secondly, there was a big TV screen opposite the bed rather than in the adjoining room, where there was a couch but nothing to look at when sitting on it. There was a coffee table and a desk but nowhere for two people to eat dinner. The kitchen facilities offered the bare miniumum. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was good. However we felt it was considerably overpriced and we would not stay there again.

Great location.Hotel is quite dated and the rooms need an upgrade, especially the bathrooms. The bed was comfy though and the room was a good size. It was quiet so we slept well which you don’t always get in central locations. Breakfast was ok as well Pity that we had to pay extra for coffee made freshly and free from the machine considering coffee is part of the breakfast.

Rooms are "traditional and old school" some might think satisfactory. However, many of the room inclusions and furniture are dated, worn, or in need of repair. Some examples, windows the curtains won't close fully, so all the light from outside cannot be blocked when trying to sleep. The bathroom needs total renovation with loose and dirty grout and silicone everywhere. No still bottled water supplied. I feel the accepted standard for a 5 star hotel is at least 1 bottle of water per guest. They are supplied just at $6 per bottle. The king bed mattress was the saviour. If not for the quality mattress my rating would have been a 2. The Stamford Plaza was once a benchmark hotel in Melbourne. This is no longer the case, management...do your job, clean the hotel up and do the required renovations. If not, just sell and let someone else passionate own the hotel and return it to its former glory.

I stayed here as an anniversary getaway with my partner. The communication I had back and fourth with one of the staff members was very unclear and awful. It's been two weeks and I haven't received my booking deposit yet which I was only told I had to do when I'd arrived at the property. They kept sending me messages about a $1 breakfast buffet deal that I wasn't able to get. On the plus side, the robes were quite comfortable, but I'd say that was the most pleasant thing about it. I thought this hotel was good but it was very lacklustre, I wish I'd booked somewhere different to enjoy my anniversary.

The hotel is in a great location with lots of potential. There're many issues to address to make the hotel a real 5-star hotel. 1) Front desk staff: less than helpful. We arrived at 01:45pm & were advised that the room wasn't ready & we'd be contacted when it's available. That phone call never came. Also, as a 5-star hotel, they should have brought our luggage to our room. This didn't happen. 2) We had a 2-bedroom suite in quite good condition. The shower screen was misaligned & couldn't be closed. It took forever to get through front desk & get it fixed. The issue was it's in very poor condition & got misaligned the next minute. A permanent fix or upgrade/renovation is required. As it's too much hassle, we stopped using that shower. 3) The service staff (the lady looking after our suite) was great, patient & helpful. It's a 5-star rating for her. 4) Small but well equipped & functional gym. 5) Small pool good for a dip but not swimming. 6) Poor insulation, we could hear people talking in the corridor & vehicle noise from the street. 7) Buffet breakfast was OK
