Reviews for Stamford Plaza Melbourne

Rooms are "traditional and old school" some might think satisfactory. However, many of the room inclusions and furniture are dated, worn, or in need of repair. Some examples, windows the curtains won't close fully, so all the light from outside cannot be blocked when trying to sleep. The bathroom needs total renovation with loose and dirty grout and silicone everywhere. No still bottled water supplied. I feel the accepted standard for a 5 star hotel is at least 1 bottle of water per guest. They are supplied just at $6 per bottle. The king bed mattress was the saviour. If not for the quality mattress my rating would have been a 2. The Stamford Plaza was once a benchmark hotel in Melbourne. This is no longer the case, management...do your job, clean the hotel up and do the required renovations. If not, just sell and let someone else passionate own the hotel and return it to its former glory.

Great location. For the price was very disappointed with the quality, hotel is quite dated and the rooms need an upgrade, especially the bathrooms. The bed was comfy though and the room was a good size. It was quiet so we slept well which you don’t always get in central locations. If I’d paid less I wouldn’t have been as disappointed.

This was a nice place to stay and the staff were mostly very friendly and helpful. Some of the facilities like the indoor pool and spa need a bit of an upgrade, and it was hard to reach the front desk using the room phone, but overall we're happy that we stayed there. Probably the best part about the hotel was the location. It's within walking distance of Chinatown, the Princess Theatre, the State Library and loads of great places to shop and eat. There are also trams everywhere, making it really easy to get around.

I just spent four days staying here. Having stayed in the Brisbane Stamford Plaza a few times, I had high expectations; Pros - Very large Queen suite - Next to no outside noise - well thought out layout of the rooms - Very comfortable bed and bedding - Well-stocked kitchenette Cons - On my first night, I had to change rooms as my air-conditioner did not work - This problem happened again on my final night I could not get my room to lower the temperature which led to an uncomfortable sleep. - My first room was immaculate. My second room was a little less but it was very much still liveable. If you’re expecting it to be brand-new it’s not. I actually kind of like that. - I was there over New Year’s and the music from the party that was taking place in the park was extremely loud. It went until 1 am. I understand it’s a hotel and it’s New Year’s Eve but maybe give people a heads up upon check in that there’s going to be a party just in case they’re not staying up late that night. Again, it wasn’t a huge deal. I just had a bath until the party ended but it would’ve been nice to have known in advance. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. While there are some small issues (except the climate control is actually a big issue) I will happily stay there again.

Would have been a 5* hotel in the 90s, however a quite dated now. It's clean, has huge rooms, and is a decent price so good for families. Best to book without breakfast as there are lots of other options in the area and the buffet wasn't up to much. The pool and gym area also quite tired and in need of an update, still, if you want a quick swim it's there.
