Decent budget friendly hotel, more like a 3 star, slightly better than a Best Western hotel. I think it's categorized as 4 star due to there being a restaurant/bar attached. The reception area is nice and clean, and the man that checked us in was very quick and friendly, plus he upgraded our room to a balcony at no additional cost. It's definitely worth asking if they have a better room available. We found the bed to be soft and comfortable. The bathroom was crammed and not that nice. The corner shower is a poor design with water getting outside on the floor. The bathtub I wouldn't touch. There were little flies somehow in the bathroom as well which was not nice. The espresso machine was good, but they didn't clean our cup that was used- they put it back like it was cleaned but it wasn't. The carpet in the room seems old, similar to the hallways. Having an empty fridge was nice to have. Overall we got a good price for the 3 night stay however I would pick a different hotel next time since I would prefer a room that's newer or renovated, and there's a lot of options in the city to find that at a similar price.

I do not recommend this hotel. I booked a room for three nights and paid in full three months in advance. When I arrived for check-in, I was told the room was not ready and was asked to wait. After 15 minutes, no one called me, so I asked again. This time, they said the room was ready and apologized for the delay. Then, they informed me that if I wanted daily housekeeping, I would have to pay extra, which is ridiculous since most hotels provide this service for guests staying multiple nights. The room itself was nice, but the king bed was covered with two single quilts that had been zipped together. However, the zipper was broken, causing the quilts to separate. On the second day, I noticed that the current price for the same room was cheaper than what I had paid three months earlier. When I asked the receptionist about a price match, he refused and simply said, “Sorry, we can’t do anything.” Overall, I was very disappointed with my stay and would not recommend this hotel.

On my birthday, we checked in quite late, around 9 PM, and the receptionist was incredibly kind and friendly. She wasn’t Australian but had such a polite and warm demeanor that made us feel very welcome. Since there were three of us, I had booked a suite room with two beds. However, she went out of her way to upgrade our room for free, which felt really special and thoughtful. The room itself was decent-sized, with a bath tub and good amenities. The only downside was the old AC, which didn’t keep the room at the right temperature. Despite that, the overall experience was wonderful, thanks to the excellent service and her generosity.

Just stayed for one night and I will say the convenience of the location is pretty good and the room itself is spacious and comfortable, and most importantly clean. The only faults found was that the blinds broke or are faulty and wouldn’t roll back up, and one of the sinks in the bathroom had poor water pressure but it still sufficed. When checking in, there was an issue with the identification process and the Asian male at the desk was thorough in ensuring the process was carried through but there was a bit of an attitude and one point he just ducks out. I’m going to put it down to misunderstanding and hope it’s a one off thing.

The Rydges is a great hotel located close to china town and accessible to all of Sydney CBD icons. The room itself is well maintained and cleaned daily. Staff are great and attend to any requests quickly. We had breakfast included, which was a great addition to out stay.
