We stopped at Mercure after another hotel left us in a lurch. My wife uses a wheelchair and the other hotel only had stairs to access their lobby. Mercure has a wheelchair lift from the street and there’s also a ramp along the side of the entrance just up the driveway. Inside, everything is level-entry and there are lifts. The reception staff were very empathetic and helped us not only get a room without a reservation but gave us a free room upgrade and two free drinks each at the bar. They were super friendly and helpful. The non-accessible room was still pretty accommodating. The bed was low enough for my wife to enter and exit on her own. The toilet had enough room for her to lever herself up even without grab bars. The shower was a combo shower/bathtub but the bathtub was so low she probably could have stepped over the side to use it if she had tried. It’s not the best If you need a lot of help, but someone with limited mobility could still use it fine. The rooms feel a bit old but are functional. There is free breakfast in the morning that is quite decent. It’s a reasonable buffet with a lot of options.
Supposedly a four star hotel this barely rates 3. Staff have been drastically reduced so there is self checkin and out which is fine except when there are issues and no one to help. The rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. The carpet looks like it has been replaced and the tv looked up to date. The rest of the furniture fixtures and fittings are in great need of replacement. My lounge chair had disgusting stains on it, the lampshade was shredded, the chipboard cupboards are swelling and the paint chipping off. The toilet roll holder had no roll, there were some bad staining in the bathroom due to age rather than cleanliness. The freezer was a huge block of ice. It’s all very tired. The room was above the loading ramp and every morning at 3am deliveries and pickup were being made and drove me mad. The air conditioning sounds like a jet engine but at least it masks some street noise. The buffer was pretty standard and ok quality. The elemental herbology bathroom products are lovely and the view from the balcony great if you get high enough.
Check-in is a different process than what we're used to. You self check-in using a "kiosk" located to the left of reception. I'm assuming you can ask for assistance if you need it (we didn't need it). You also need to tap your credit/debit card so they can take $1 in case of incidentals. Which you get back sometime later after you check-out. The room we stayed in was reasonably clean and quite spacious. The bed is large and comfortable with nice pillows. However, the people who service the room could certainly do a better job. The bottom sheet on most days wasn't even tucked in. Furthermore, I don't recall the carpet being vacuumed once while we were here, and the bathroom was never mopped. Speaking of the bathroom, it is very dated and not much room to move. The shower is situated within the bath and the screen limits the room you have to wash yourself. Also the soap, shampoo and conditioner dispenser really inhibits movement. Also, there is no plug to have a bath and no plug for the sink to shave. Additionally, the cleanliness of the bathroom is not up to standard. The door to the balcony has no lock. I doubt that anyone would be able to get to the door, but you never know! Having said all that, we didn't hear any noise from outside and most of the staff were friendly and easy to approach. There is plenty on offer for breakfast and it was very fresh and tasty. Would I stay here again...yes, I think I would.
I stayed for 3 nights on a business trip and everything was great - nice room, great location near the water, the restaurant had ample choices for breakfast and the dinners were very tasty - the soup was especially delicious. And the staff were very helpful at all times. Will definitely stay again if I head over to Perth in the future.
The location is convenient and very close to the Royal Perth Hospital. The room is spacious and comfortable. The bathtop can see some wear and tear. Housekeeping was fantastic. The buffet breakfast is average considering the price, but overall I am happy to have good choices for breakfast, and it is good to have a breakfast at site. The aircon is working without issue, but the temperature setting might not be accurate. When I set the temperature around 19 degree, it worked fine. If I set 21 degrees or above, it seems stopped (maybe due to the temperature is cooler outside). Overall, this was a pleasant experience and I will consider visit again.
