Arrived at 5 after a long flight, parked about 700m away & walked to check in. No reception staff. Machines in lobby to self check in. Waited for someone at the desk as I needed to find parking. No parking. Was told to park in the Firehouse lot down the road, it’s free to 4am. Dragged my suitcases up the road. Room is very basic. This is budget accommodation at not a budget price. Paid over $200 per night. Room is dated & run down. Bathroom is old, but looks clean apart from the chipped paint. Booked as part of a qantas holiday package this is not a holiday hotel, this is a backpacker hotel at best.
By far the best thing about this place was the staff! They were honestly wonderful and i was happy with every interaction i had with them, no matter the time of day. 10/10 There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom, the tv was a bit tricky to figure out, my iPhone also wasn’t connecting to the samsung tv so was unable to share my screen for youtube etc, and the street got a little loud even for a Monday night. But the pillows were the comfiest Ive felt & it was still the nicest place ive been to yet and im grateful for my experience, would recommend, 8/10!
Firstly, the room temperature was uncomfortably cold, and I was unable to adjust the air conditioning. Despite notifying the staff, I was simply offered an extra blanket, which was neither a sufficient nor appropriate solution to the issue. Secondly, the faucet in the bathroom was broken. I reported this, but no action was taken until I followed up again. Additionally, the shower gel was not refilled prior to my stay. Furthermore, the in-room phone in my original room was not broken and was removed without being replaced. After being moved to a new room, I was surprised to find that there was no phone at all. I have stayed at many hotels across different countries, including several under the Accor group, and unfortunately, this stay has been one of the most disappointing. The lack of attention to guest comfort and responsiveness to reported problems does not reflect the standard I associate with the Mercure brand.
My booked king room smelt of cigarettes so I had to change to a twin. The manager told me I was not eligible for a free late checkout but I could buy one for $100. When I showed the desk clerk the Accor Limitless program conditions showing I was entitled to a free late checkout I was then told a late checkout now wasn’t available. I told the clerk to go and re-check with the manager and never heard anything again.
They refused to give me an invoice, which is against the Australian law for sells higher than $82.50. The hotel is very tired, especially the bathrooms. The pillows are to high and not soft - keeping your neck bended and strained. The breakfast is a rip off - they call it buffet but the choice is very poor and you can hardly find veggies. The location is good and the staff are nice and efficient. The cleanliness was also ok.
