Rooms are tired and old, cleanliness could be improved. Had issues with ongoing noise overnight, raised it with reception and was essentially fobbed off "sorry, nothing I can do". Before the stay I was given attitude from a staff member on the phone when trying to change the dates of my booking "Just go online and book the additional nights, I can't help you here..." Better off across the road or any of the other options in Perth.
The rooms in this hotel are absolutely garbage. Stay away. It is hard for me to describe how bad is the situation here. The hotel has neglected renovations for decades. Terrible bathroom showers and carpets. There is no proper illumination in the rooms, I am pretty sure the door locks aren't compliant with Australian safety standards. The halls and corridors are very bad, not clean, need painting. Anyways, very bad experience paying a 5 star hotel rate. The restaurant next to the lobby is alright and staff was always very professional, attentive and polite.
The good: The views were amazing. The buffet breakfast was perfect. The staff were professional and polite. The dessert and drinks we had at the bar were delicious. The price was very reasonable. The suite was clean. The bad: The bathrooms required maintenance. 1/3 of the shower door was missing, so it could not close properly. A jet in the bath did not work. There was evidence of water damage in various places. Fixtures were loose. We also noticed the TV volume in the lounge went to 100, but the same TV in the bedroom only went up to 50 and was noticeably quieter. It was almost impossible to hear while the AC was also on.
Firstly can I mention the professionalism and politeness of the staff. Unfortunately though, night one after getting in from my flight and two Ubers as one driver took me to the wrong Novotel, I had no hot water to shower, when that was all I wanted to warm up! Did not receive any notification and due to the room phone not dialing through to reception, I had to call on my mobile, only to be told there was not ETA when it would be back! Thankfully it was up and running in the morning before my workshop! While its great that there are gym facilities, these were pretty basic! Also, advertised online as having a coffee machine, as well as tea and coffee facilities. Definitely no coffee machine, but a very clean kettle, only no milk in the fridge! Apparently they'd run out of the small cartons for the rooms. For a 4 star hotel, kind of expected more! No microwave in the rooms, which is weird, I felt! Overall, it was good for what I needed for my visit to the city and glad I didn't pay for it, as I may have gone across the road, personally!
The staff were lovely and accommodating. The room was comfortable, but with 2 adults and 2 kids it was a bit squished. The biggest issue was the level of noise from adjacent rooms and the corridor. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast too.
