We recently stayed at the Stamford Hotel and was thoroughly disappointed. The check-in and check-out process was frustratingly slow and poorly managed, and the front desk personnel were completely unprofessional and snide. The room, advertised as deluxe, was far from it—dim lighting, non-functional facilities, no sheer curtains, and a barely stocked mini-bar. The parking situation was another letdown—advertised as free, but I ended up paying $98 for two nights. You’re better off parking at Wilson Parking around the corner. The hotel feels old and in desperate need of an upgrade. The restaurant ratings on Google (3.8 and 4.2) are misleading at best. Scaffolding is everywhere, making the place look like a construction zone, and to top it off, there was no porter service. I’ve received far better service in Asia at a fraction of the price. The hospitality and tourism sector here needs serious attention. Honestly, bringing back the tipping system might improve the service, as it seems Australians have become too complacent. Avoid this place if you're looking for a premium experience—it’s far from it.

We were warmly welcomed by the exceptional concierge, Adrian. The entire staff at the Stamford demonstrated remarkable warmth and hospitality. As we proceeded to the foyer, we were awestruck by the magnificent staircase and the beautiful paintings that adorned the space. Our room, located on the sixth floor, provided breathtaking views. The beds and pillows ensured utmost comfort, and the room itself was spacious. The buffet breakfast offered a comprehensive selection of delectable options.

Enjoyed a lovely meal prior to Riverfire. Staff were friendly and entertaining. My only comment is that when paying over $200 for a ticket, we were surprised to be served drinks in plastic glasses when outside on the deck. This detracted from an otherwise lovely experience.

Instant coffee, in a $300 room??? Otherwise excellent. Our room had a pretty standard box layout, but was elegantly furnished and decorated, and the river view was fantastic. The sink taps made a terrible racket when they weren’t open all the way, so there was no way to be quiet when using the washroom in the middle of the night.

As per previous reviews the location is excellent but that’s it these days. Rooms are quite dated although clean. Beds are sagging and could do with replacing as well as the first night we both roasted with a sub-par air conditioning control. Was fine going to bed then we woke around 2am boiling hot - must have a control elsewhere that backs it off to save energy?…. Had to make it 19°c the second night to rest properly. Tried calling reception twice for questions and nobody was picking up on a quiet Sunday. Had to go down to them to ask in person for a simple shampoo tube - they weren’t busy at all! Room service food quality was really average and hasn’t changed for a very long time - that was also very disappointing. No mini bar anymore, coffee is only sachets which these days I’d consider poor service on both counts with the Stamford in consideration of price point. Finally - hidden credit card fees / charges that are extremely HIGH. I got slugged just shy of $10 for 2 nights there!! That’s unforgivably shameful and has no basis for any defence. Things are not what they used to be and they really need to consider their price point for service and room comfort which has dropped off. I’ll stay elsewhere next time and happily walk an extra 7-10mins to get where I need.
