We attended the Mad Hatter High Tea for Easter. It was a very whimsical experience immensely enjoyed by our group of ladies who attended. The effort Stamford Plaza puts into the event is beautiful and I saw the kids who attended all very excited. The hotel itself is a beautiful hotel, and the staff are lovely. I have attended other high teas here and I have to say it was my favorite. Highly recommend this magical experience.
Booked a superior room promise of river views including story bridge. Promise of complementary water and all. Got none of the above. Soon as we arrived it went down hill. Drove into entrance just chaos. People parking wherever they like. Got out of car disgruntled customers leaving. Told to park your own car if no space bad luck after I paid for parking in advance. Car park was disgusting rubbish everywhere. Had to take our own luggage up flights of stairs that were filthy. Got into room no complementary water as promised on website. Could smell water damaged carpet. No mini bar. No view except a small bit of the river. Our room didn’t even have a room number on it just had to use card on every door. Photo attached of just how run down this place is and that was our view. Looks like owner does not want to spend money. Will never come back again.
Beautiful classic style hotel but a few of the furnishings and touches are a bit tired and old. No robes in the room which was a bummer. Deluxe room was a little small but had great views of the river. The bathroom was super spacious. The staff were friendly and attentive. Great location and beautiful lobby area.
Great sized room and spacious bathroom. The room is a bit old fashioned styled, TV was inside a timber cabinet, for instance. The only downside was no tea coffee making facilities in the room. The breakfast buffet was excellent as well. Location of the hotel in the heart of the CBD with river views is a plus.
Chocolate afternoon tea wasn't worth the cost. No tea menu (physical or digital). No decaf teas besides peppermint or chamomile. Tea was already steeping when brought out, so I poured it right after, and it was still already bitter. And it was Dilmah tea bags (not loose leaf, or local, which would have been nice). The buffet format for afternoon tea was just not it. I didn't try 100% of the buffet of sweets, but I didn't really like any that I did try. I have a sweet tooth but they were all aggressively sugary (maybe to make you feel full faster). The mousses/similar tasted like cheap packet mix. No actual chocolates iirc, just the fountains. Options for fountain food were two fruits or churros (good idea, but not at air-con room-temperature). Scones were crazy dry. The tastiest thing was a chocolate-covered strawberry. Mmm $69.
