We enjoyed a superb stay here. A beautiful historic hotel with so much character throughout. We were welcomed on our arrival by exceptionally friendly and professional staff on reception and by the concierge. Parking was easy. Our room was so comfortable, the bed and pillows luxurious, and we had stunning views over the pool and river. Its within easy walking distance of the city centre for shopping. We loved it here and can highly recommend it if you want a beautiful authentic hotel.
Worst breakfast I've seen anywhere, especially given the premium price point for my room. I felt sorry for the international visitors wandering around bewildered trying to find something to eat. There wasn't even a respectable bowl of muesli on offer. My room was large, clean and had great views but the dated decor wasn't helped by the wallpaper peeling off in a few places. PS - Nice to see a significant improvement at breakfast on the second day. The substantial increase in floor staff (tripple?) meant that arriving guests were greeted quickly and used plates were cleared away from tables. There even appeared to be someone handling an egg station. Bacon had been added to the hot food selection and a bowl of bircher muesli was also on offer as were additional cold cut selections (now presented on a platter instead of in perspex boxes). Still plenty of opportunities for improvement, especially if the hotel hopes to appeal to Asian and European guests one day, but no longer the worst breakfast ever. That remains yesterday's claim on my memories. PPS. The daytime Concierge staff deserve an honourable mention for consistently being pleasant and most helpful.
Stunning view from our room and incredible location. Walking distance to Eagle St Pier, Howard Smith wharves and the Botanical Gardens. The hotel has an old wordly decor which I usually love, although the hotel is starting to feel aged and needs some updating. Our room was clean and had a lovely bath. The service was good. I think the AC was broken as we couldn't turn it off and it was very cold. Parking at the hotel is $50 per day.
Nice spot but... I'd suggest not going in the weekend, short on staff as i am guessing the company doesn't want to pay weekend staff rates. Bags piled up at lobby to come to the room best you take them to your room yourself, as we figured that out 2 hours later. Dirty Nappies and dirty towels piled up at pool entrance with no clean towels. Spending the price would expect better.. hot tip keep looking.
Firstly the parking situation…. Absolutely appalling.. if you are providing this service “complimentary- please note that customers have to pay” your customers shouldn’t have to be parking off site. Secondly the lack of enthusiasm from staff was a shock. You work in an industry that is customer service based… be better. Thirdly the breakfast also appalling- I don’t have the words to describe my disappointment. Personally this is really disappointing. I have been coming to this hotel since I was a little girl. And it’s usually my go to for a staycation. And this has been a stay I would have been better off staying at home.
